Submission feature: GHAZM - Baked on the Beach
As the very first submission feature of this blog, we'll take a listen to GHAZM's 15 minute track Baked on the Beach.
It opens up with the warm embrace of a crisp and thick drone, now and then interrupted by the sound of (perhaps) crushing waves. All the while birds are singing in the distant, accompanied by echoes from a human voice.
Soon a guitar starts playing fragments of a melody, as if trying to find its voice amongst the human vocals that are now floating around it (some throat singing can also be heard!).
With the introduction of a steady four-to-the-floor bass drum the track picks up speed and all the elements kind of glue together in a ritualistic ecstasy.
GHAZM describes themselves as a cinematic drone-rock band. Their debut album Dethrone the DJs was released on the 22nd of September and can be purchased on their website (it is also available on Spotify, iTunes Music, Deezer etc.).
