DroneShield adds radar to boost drone detection system

Counterdrone measure manufacturer DroneShield has added long-range RADA RPS-82 radar capabilities to its flagship DroneSentry drone detection system.

RPS-82 provides DroneSentry operators with a significantly enhanced radar detection, classification and tracking range for wide area, multi-mission requirements, according to the Sydney company.

“With DroneSentry’s compatibility with multiple radar platforms, DroneShield can offer both high-performance and cost-effective solutions to meet any customer requirement and/or budget.”

RADA is a leading C-UAS radar system manufacturer, with a radar product family fielded widely by the US DoD.

The Company is offering RADA RPS-82 radars with its DroneSentry solutions, available now to existing and prospective customers.

DroneShield’s radio frequency sensors remain the core way of detecting drones. Where the customer's deployment scenario and budget allow, multi-sensor detection provides a superior approach, when managed by an intelligent C2 software.

Alongside integration of RPS-82, the Company has significantly upgraded its Blue Mountains, Sydney remotely operated facility, including integrating the RADA RPS-82 radar system, permanently installed onsite.

DroneShield and Epirus Join Forces for the Ultimate Counterdrone Defense (see original article)

DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO) (DroneShield) and Epirus, Inc (Epirus) have joined forces to unveil a game-changing C-UAS solution. 

DroneShield’s multi-sensor DroneSentry system now seamlessly integrates with Epirus’ powerful Leonidas high-power microwave (HPM) effector, resulting in unparalleled drone defense capabilities. 

DroneSentry incorporates radiofrequency, radar and electro-optic detection and tracking system as well as smart jamming UAS defeat module, powered by its cutting edge DroneSentry-C2 command-and-control system.

Epirus’ Leonidas is a counter-electronics system with the power and precision to neutralise a single threat in tight, crowded spaces or disable multiple threats across a wide area simultaneously. Mounted on a gimble to increase manoeuvrability, the system can be deployed as a fixed or mobile capability enabling wide-area rapid response. 

Epirus’ revolutionary approach to directed energy allows for unmatched counter-electronics effects, dramatically reduces the size and weight of the system and enables greater operator control and safety. 

Epirus was awarded a US$66 million US Government contract earlier this year for the stand-alone Leonidas systems.

In November 2022, Epirus made an investment of A$3.7 million (corresponding to approximately US$2.5 million) into DroneShield as it looks to expand its international partner ecosystem.

DroneShield has achieved a number of project wins in last 6 months, including two A$11 million orders from Government agencies of two separate countries in December 2022 and January 2023, a $2.2 million order in April, an initial UTM order in March as well as releasing DroneGun Mk4 in April.

Alongside the integration of RPS-82, the Company has significantly upgraded its Blue Mountains remotely operated facility, to scale up and streamline the development and testing of its platforms. This includes field lessons from real-world deployments including Ukraine and other environments where drone threats have risen in prominence. The fully equipped site will allow the team to shorten development cycles and deliver firmware updates to DroneShield’s subscribed customer base more efficiently. The upgraded test facility includes the integration of the RADA RPS-82 radar system, permanently installed onsite.

The upgraded Blue Mountains facility complements the Company’s existing Northern Virginia-based testing facility in the U.S.
