aesthetic + headcanon + playlist: charlie’s love languages

As someone who often initiates the affection for other people, her love language is rather straightforward and clear — quite like the idol herself, and she’s not shy to initiate most of the affection for her people. It may come as a surprise to no one that most of her affection is shown through actions than words.

headcanon: the five love languages (wc: 703)

Took this love language test and here are the results, so let’s break it down.

Her primary love language is physical touch (which she scored a whopping 40% on) and for the people who are close to her it would come as no surprise how she seeks the physical attention and affection from the people she is comfortable with. She’s also not too shy to ask for it whenever she deems fit or needs the attention — she can come across as rather forward and a bit too much for the ones who aren’t as comfortable having their personal bubble being invaded.

Being physically close to someone is both her way of communicating her love for and interest in said person, as well as an indicator of how safe and comfortable she feels with them.

During times of distress, physical contact will be the first thing she seeks from the people she trusts and how they respond to her request will make or break her trust in them.

She loves being enveloped in a hug.

Hand in hand with physical touch comes quality time (23%) because being able to spend hours upon end lounging around with your favorite people beats anything else in the world, she has come to realize, and it has always been one of her favored ways of spending her time whenever she’s not working.

Especially with the lifestyle she leads which leaves little to no room for some downtime — and it’s a fact she has had to accept from a young age however bitter of a pill it was to swallow. In the moments when the stars align and the universe falls into place, she knows not to waste any time or opportunity given.

No matter how confident she claims herself to be there’s always a little seed of doubt planted in her mind, and like most, she’s not immune to becoming insecure about herself. In times like these words of affirmation would come in handy to soothe her worries and doubts away, even if for just a moment. She scored 17% on this love language, putting it in third place alongside acts of service. To her these two things are just two sides of the same coin, and she doesn’t think we could have one and not the other.

Actions speak louder than words has always been a sentiment she lives by and it shows in the way she comes to expect from the people she puts her trust in. They can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?

For as talkative as she is, she definitely shows more of her affection through her actions than her words (also because her words can be a hit or miss with the blunt way she has of speaking and her attitude of no-nonsense which isn’t always well received.)

Neither are as good as being able to physically touch or hold someone or be held (although the combination of a physical touch and words of affirmation is a pretty banging combo if she could say so herself), they still do their part in letting people know how much she cares about them and would be willing to set aside her own needs for five minutes to take care of someone else beside herself.

Receiving gifts is the last love language, and also the one she scores the lowest on — 3%, but despite the results she does love receiving little gifts every now and then (especially if said person has been travelling.)

It doesn’t beat being able to spend time with her loved ones, but receiving gifts outside of events to be celebrated — “I bought this because it reminded me of you” — is sure to have her go 🥺 on you.

It’s also funny to see her score so low on this love language because when it comes to her showing how she appreciates someone it most often comes through in her giving gifts to others despite not prioritizing this love language for herself.

So what’s the takeaway from all this? Charlie is a needy little bitch that craves a lot of physical affection and isn’t shy to demand ask for it whenever she sees fit. Please give her all the hugs 🥺

one very late night at the beachside away from prying eyes with nothing but alcohol, food and @fmdminjung to keep her company.

When the leaves transform color and the weather turns colder, the changes of the earth which comes and goes every year like clockwork marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. Despite the predictability in which they’ve come to expect there are still sprinkles of surprises which manage to worm its way in and take root in their life like weeds sprung from concrete.

Like a chameleon adapting to its surroundings as a means of survival, Charlie too, adjusts and conforms accordingly to ensure she stays alive in a dog-eat-dog world. It’s hard work, it’s dirty work, but she is nothing if not resilient and she forces her way through every hindrances put in her way, some has been more successful than others.

(But she’s still here, isn’t she?)

She does not have the control of her own life in the palms of her own hands the way she had wished or hoped for, a fact which has been proven to her times upon times again from childhood to adolescence and well until this very day and age where she is nearing the end of her twenties and is still dancing to the tunes of someone else’s song.

It’s in the dead of the night when sleep usually overtakes the majority of the population that Charlie finds her comfort, any gimmick meant to keep her alive is laid to rest with the others, and she steps into the darkness with a renewed energy. “Wish I could build a home next to the beach.” A sentiment voiced out loud to no one in particular even with a comrade accompanying her, but she does not expect the other to reply.

There’s a picnic blanket spread out on the sand where she currently lies with eyes closed, a half-eaten cup of spicy ramen balancing precariously on her stomach taken from the basket of food they packed with them for the little getaway. “Do you ever wish for something like that? Something so close yet so far.”

fantasy cruise, free time: restaurant hopping with anyone!

Traveling’s first rule of thumb is to always check out the food.

Food is part of the culture, and one could learn a lot about said culture from the food they serve — everything from the visual aspect, how it tastes, and how it smells to the way of eating and sharing an experience with others.

But when they’re stuck sailing in the middle of the Seven Seas with only water surrounding them as far as the eye could see, they couldn’t be the one to travel and experience different cultures, so the cultures had to be brought to them. Said cultures come in the form of restaurants serving American, Korean, Italian, French and Japanese food — none which were uncharted waters for Charlie but she would be sure to give them all a try at least once during this ride, to see how this cruise version would hold up against other versions she’s tried before.

Breakfast starts with a very French affair of toast, egg, jam, orange juice and complimentary coffee for the ones who needed it. It’s delicious, a nice and easy way to wake up and it doesn’t make you feel heavy afterwards. Still it’s not quite filling enough to her taste, and she wishes she could have more croissants — maybe one for the road?

To her joy, lunch time finally rolls around and it’s time to pick out the next destination. “I feel like going for sushi right now or BBQ. Unless you’re hungry for something else? What do you think?”

playlist: songs charlie grew up with, pop edition A look at some of the tunes Charlie blasted on repeat with her friends. wc: 108

Charlie grew up outside of South Korea, specifically Adelaide in South Australia, and thus most of the music she grew up with happens to be English songs. This playlist is a throwback to the sounds she had on repeat during her younger years, and still continues to play every now and then to this day whenver nostalgia hits. The pop edition of this playlist includes many iconic songs and singers from the early 2000s pop scene. With that said, many of these songs can also be found being used as soundtracks for various movies and television series, which is also how she came to discover them if not through the radio.

aesthetic + headcanon + playlist: made in excellence (2021)

Charlie’s first solo mini album is nothing sort of exciting when February 2nd rolls around and she sees all her hard work released to the world to listen and to see. She gets a short two week promotion for the album, and although she thinks it’s really too bad the promotion period is so short, she makes the most out of it. This promotion period also sees Charlie being more active on social media than usual aside from the standard fan meetings, hosting instagram lives and vlives just to talk to fans about the creation of the album and the songs. No Jam charted for a bit, and while it’s not the most tremendous feat, it’s still fun to see her solo stuff take off.

headcanon: made in excellence, a commentary (wc: 831)

Made In Excellence (stylized as made in excellence) is the first mini album from BEE member Charlie released on February 2nd, 2021. The mini album showcases the idol member’s first array into a solo career and the album spans six songs altogether.

Charlie had a hand in writing all the songs on her album, credited with some partial and others full credit, along with some composition credits on five of the songs.

The overall vibe of the mini they wanted to go for was a record that felt like a friend to the listener, a record people could tune in to whenever they need a little pick-me-up, hence why most of the songs lean into being more upbeat. It was a record she felt she wanted and needed to create for herself, and so she did.

Adolescent: When they were brainstorming for the album and they came up with the concept and theme for it, she immediately knew she wanted to include Adolescent in the tracklist. And while initially disappointed it’s not a title track, she’s still happy it got to stay. Adolescent was written during a time when she doubted herself the most and when she was in dire need of someone or something to remind herself she wasn’t all the bad things people said about her. With the thought of needing a confidence booster, this song was then made.

Like A Fool: Written during an off the record jam session, she never thought to officially release any of the songs they wrote due to how frivolous they were but this one had just fit perfectly with her upcoming mini album, like a missing piece of a puzzle, and she couldn’t not include it when they were discussing the final tracklist. Lyrically the song speaks about letting go of the burdens of expectations placed upon you and to forge a path of your own, taking the insult of “like a fool” and turning it into a positive experience.

No Jam: Charlie is stoked to have No Jam be the title track, because it means she can have so much fun performing it. The choice of having No Jam as the title is unusual given the lack of choreography for the song. Performance-wise, it’s all freestyle and all dependent on Charlie as a performer, which is a far cry from the rehearsed performances of BEE. No Jam is as candid as she can get on a title track, pieced together by her experience in the spotlight and the need of wanting to get away from it all and just wanting to lead an easy and simple life.

I’m Bad Too: Decidedly the shortest song on the record, I’m Bad Too doesn’t even hit the two and a half minute mark, but it still packs a punch lyrically. If the first three tracks of the album were more lighthearted and upbeat, this track takes it down a notch both lyrically and sonically. It’s a call-out to the haters and any unwarranted criticism she has faced through the years with sprinkles of resilience, making it clear that she’s here to stay despite it all.

The Sun, The Moon in Love: This song is the result of songwriting based on a prompt given to her by the production team, and is also probably the song she has the least connection to. It’s not a song she hates by any means, as the theme and the sound of the song has challenged her out of her comfort zone as both a songwriter and a rapper. It shows a relatively softer side to her which contrasts nicely to the more cheerful and energetic first half of the album. This song invites the listener to kick back and ride the waves, literally and metaphorically.

Galaxy: This is one of the songs she holds so much fondness for because it’s overall such a sweet and fun song for her to have written and to perform. It’s riddled with a signature Charlie attitude of looking at the positive things in a relationship (or life in general) and living in the moment instead of marinating in the bad. The choice to have Galaxy as the b-side to perform alongside the title trickles down to her wanting to perform a song entirely singing to contrast No Jam, a rap song. As the last song on the record, the song picks back up again with a heartening cheer to round it all off, an ode to all the good things in life.

Bonus!

Snow: Technically not a part of the album, but I still wanna shine a light on the digital single just because it was her first array into her career as a solo artist. Snow serves as a rather safe pick for a solo single, yet also a somewhat “daring” (a very loosely used term in this context) endeavour as we hear her sing for most of the song as opposed to what her position in the group would indicate.

Taking inspiration from the Rina Sawayama who has made playlists consisting of other songs which have inspired her or reminded her of her own songs. In the same vein, this playlist consists of songs Charlie either took inspiration from in the making of made in excellence or they reminded her of her songs once she had the final tracklist on lock. Inspiration-wise, whether it was lyrically or sonically (though most of the inspirations leans more towards having drawn from the music as opposed to the lyrics), they played a part in helping to shape the mini album and the songs to become what it is today.

CHARLIE THROUGH THE ERAS  ➜  BE MY BABY

After the disaster that is their last comeback Be My Baby, released on November 7th, 2012, comes as a clear contrast in concept, combatting the odd and colorful color scheme with a sleek and monochrome one instead. The song itself is nothing to write home about but it becomes one she enjoys rehearsing and recording a lot more than the previous title track, which could also be said for the rest of the album. This is also the first time in two years where the girls are able to have some kind of creative input in writing and composing some of the songs on the album which makes BEE World one of the albums she enjoys the most to this day.
