idk just a Thought, but,

cameras require light in order to do their job properly (though now some cameras have really good night modes but those are new). drow are really sensetive to light so camera flashes would hurt their eyes. I bet in the underdark, drow taking pictures with their eyes closed would be the trend. like wistful matron mothers with their eyes downcast and looking off at nothing in particular while showing off expensive regal gowns and jewels, priestesses perfectly poised with sacrificial daggers while their eyes are closed like they're in a trance, daughters taking pictures in their bedchambers looking like they're asleep while their makeup and hair are done immaculately to show off their promising beauty, male escorts hiding their faces and eyes behind their hair while wearing scant clothing (if any at all). they'd all look so dreamy

Some more messy drow homebrew notes, mostly for me but also hope you guys enjoy, might draw some clothing styles that expose their pseudo later because I feel it would be somewhat involved in the culture if it was like this, also idk what I’m doing with the males yet cause I care a lot less about them

Also unrelated to this specifically but they probably have more complex/birdlike vocal chords for their voice mimicry, and talk more in their throats than with their mouths, which other races find unnerving

They sometimes when speaking other languages tend to sound a bit too ‘hissy’ or sound like they’re speaking too soft/using too much air due to the sound of their own language and the way it’s formed

Also a cool idea from @blubebbie that I’m gonna use too

drow have slightly narrower pallets and sharper teeth, which made it so they have a bit of a lisp if they arent conciously trying to mask it. if ever they were trying to use their voice mimicry to trick someone, and they were a novice at doing so, most people would be able to pick out the slight lisp and see through the deception

Some Drow Ideas

Drow parents lightly poison their kids at random (it gives them nothing worse then a fever) to give them the paranoia needed to survive.

Drow Kids love Rock Candy.

Drow Freckles are white and look like stars, its a required taste in their society. Some think their beautifull, others do not.

They totaly have pet spiders.

Their love is a secretive, quiet, and shy thing. If a Drow truely loves you, you'll see a side that only exists behind closed doors and in your arms.

Messy headcanon notes on transgender drow culture because that’s the things I think about

I was half awake trying to think of a good mushroom name for estrogen mushrooms and I came up with like widow’s cap or some gay shir like that because I was half asleep but also polymorph exists but I think within drow there’s less pressure to change your genital situation because gender is different and blah blah being a girl with a penis or a boy with a vagina is more advantageous for each particular gender as if you’re a girl with a penis suddenly you’re popular for better or worse because you’re able to reproduce with a cis woman and they wouldn’t have to deal with males, if you’re a man without a penis you don’t have to worry about jealous suitors castrating you for looking at another girl wrong

At a certain age I assume attendants help higher class women with applying or taking their estrogen, as trans women are seen to be blessed by lolth herself

The deal with trans men I’m not 100 percent sure but I was thinking something like while not super frowned upon it’s still you’re male now ew you must have no lusts for power your weakness will be the end of you type deal

“Oh good I don’t have to waste my poisons anymore since I have a son now”

“No one will try to assassinate my baby unless he tries courting the right girls”

“Oh of course my daughter is a son he never wanted the crown like his sisters did”-a supportive drow mother

Of course that’s not saying much, as some drow mothers don’t even notice whoops I had this many daughters and this many sons if they’re particularly bad

But might get angry to check in and whoops I have a son

Might have to castrate my husband for that little surprise

Also dnd lore is rough cause there’s so much stuff happening with older races that we don’t even know if drow males or drow females are the larger ones(I’m going with females being bigger I’m assuming a hyena situation tbh)

Thinking about Drow getting close to one another to feel each other with their whiskers upon meeting

Maybe it’s even a part of their sign language, a certain flick or brush of the whiskers could help ascertain tone or mood hm
