Nathaniel had seen ghost towns, those burned out hulks left smoldering after a battle had moved on - this was worse. Not because of the damage, but because it felt distant. There wasn’t any sound as he moved about, not even a click from the metal plates on his brogans. When he reached out and touched a glass wall there may as well have been nothing under his hand at all.
Even the darkness felt weird, and where had all the blood and bodies gone? The rebel Host continued his exploration under someone finally broke that silence that he wasn’t able to penetrate. With one look over to the voice, if Hopkin hadn’t believed in ghosts before, he did then. The face was one that he recalled first from one of the sometimes-there memories he was still learning to navigate, and then from a more recent moment. “Did a mite more’n mention.”
He examined the ghost of Ford, last seen bloating from the heat. When words were manageable again, Nathaniel bristled as he always did when a sleight against his creator was perceived, “No he ain’. You gone an’ left him a hull damned war what with everythin’ burnin’ down an all us with it.”
