i’ve been thinking about dean & drugs a lot - he would not use them when he has to take care of sam, and he could not use them around john, so when he is young he would be reluctant to take anything. but then the stanford era happens. john has left, sam has left, dean needs to hunt but he does it on his own and it happens in a somewhat passively suicidal way sometimes, the best way to eat is by stealing or seducing, the best* way to make money is sex work, coming across drugs is easy and sometimes even unintentional. sometimes he spends days in a motel room, high and not leaving the bed, trying to forget sam.
