So I’ve discovered the joys of making complicated ass diagrams

Oomf not online so I have to tell The Internet my new AU idea

So I come up with AUs in a very funky fashion. I click a playlist set it on shuffle and the song that Sparks Joy becomes the new AU idea for whatever pairing I’m hyperfixating on at the moment.

On this fateful Thursday morning, the song fate decided was Carnival by John Micheal Howell and the pairing drunznotfound. So I snatched the idea and ran with it

SO THE IDEA. THE CONCEPT. THE PLAN.

There is a cursed carnival. It seems regular at first, until you realize all the attendees have the same face and the same voice and what the fuck why is that cat headless and everything is very very wrong

Once you step through the gates, it’s basically a parallel dimension and you can reach no one on the outside and no one on the outside can reach you. You may be thinking, what the fuck Cordi how did this carnival shit come to be

Dream was just a regular guy. And then he gets murdered and his soul (which has been stitched to his body through shenanigans I haven’t figured out yet involving Punz) blossoms into this horrible mindscape where he’s basically just REALLY REALLY MAD THAT HE WAS MURDERED and everyone who steps inside the mindscape is hunted down by headless carnival animals with smiles carved into their severed necks

The warden is not a hunter, and in fact guards whats left of Dream’s body at the center of the mindscape. Anyone who approaches the inner courtyard is killed instantly by it.

The cats are also not hunters. Some are benevolent, leading trapped carnival-goers to safe places. Some alert or lead you to the hunters. They all look the exact same.

Onto the actual plot, Punz is led to a suspicious looking carnival and is trapped inside. He gets almost instantly murked by a hunter.

And then he wakes up.

Punz soon realizes he cannot die in the mindscape. His soul is sewn to his body, similar to Dream’s, except because he is trapped inside another’s mindscape, he cannot create his own. He simply respawns.

Now, obviously he doesn’t want to die over and over (even though he ends up dying. A lot) and ALSO doesn’t want to be trapped in this carnival forever, so he starts looking for a way out.

Along the way he meets George, who somehow sneaked guns upon his initial entry into the carnival and has been surviving for months alone. He’s pretty practical and hasn’t died yet, so he and Punz decide to team up to try and destroy the mindscape to get out.

They have very important conversations that end up revealing a couple things. One, the only people who can see and enter the carnival are people who have had a close (usually romantic) relationship with Dream. Both George and Punz are Dream’s exes. The entire mindscape is basically just some elaborate revenge fantasy for the now dead Dream.

And then there is a #Big Twist! After a very fun visit to the Funhouse full of mirrors that reveal your most terrible regrets (coughs Punz’s is leaving his brother alone coughs) Punz figures out that George was the one who killed Dream. In fact, the whole point of the mindscape is not only to get revenge on the people who have wronged him but punish George by making him kill people’s souls and banish them to the ether forever. He gets to have the fun experience of damning people to nonexistence for years on end yayyyy

Obviously Punz is pissed and like “so was your whole plan just to murder me” and George is like “lwk yeah you’re the last soul I have to sacrifice before he lets me go” and Punz is like “LET YOU GO????” and in fact he realizes that George is not trapped here forever he just has to make like a bajillion ritual soul sacrifices before Dream’s ghost or whatever decides he’s done and lets him free

Unfortunately, Punz is unkillable in the mindscape. The fancy soul stitches he has make sure of that. George is very killable in the mindscape, but the hunters would all immediately jump and spawn-kill Punz forever if he did kill him (because it would basically free him from the torment of banishing people to the ether)

There’s a bunch of other stuff about this like George doesn’t really care about the banishing thing it just causes him excruciating pain every time he does it and that mercenary duo is actually kind of important but ✨WHATEVER✨ send asks or something

Dudeee c!DNF is sooo underrated outside of certain circles. Like ppl immediately just think of it as sprouting out of the whole more like cc-centric RPF thing but no, no, you don’t get it! FOR SURE that is a big reason that it was shipped widely, but in my controversial opinion the more you think about the characters the more you see how the ship fits rly well and interestingly. Like, I don’t give a damn about the cc’s and always thought the whole rpf shipping thing was so stupid and hilarious, but I can never be normal about angsty toxic c!DNF. I’m the anon who asked about c!DNF x c!Drunz btw I’m excited seeing someone else like the idea of George x Punz x Dream and variations of it bc I haven’t rly seen content/discussion or anything abt it before! You have Drunz blocked so I’m not sure you’d like hearing any propaganda about it lol, though I'd enjoy dropping more DNF-->Drunz propaganda and hearing more of your thoughts on that if given a thumbs up. Not sure how much you appreciate anons pestering you either though XD. I’ve not thought enough about the Punz x George side of a possible love-triangle/poly thing or just c!PNF minus c!Dream, so I'd also love hearing more of your thoughts on that idea if you’d enjoy :3

Big fan of cdnf and I agree about the rpf thing omg do you know the lengths I go through when I'm scrolling the tag on Ao3. Get out of my face I'm trying to read toxic Minecraft yaoi. Incredible lack of toxic Minecraft yaoi under the dnf tag if you can believe it. However don't you worry

I am working on remedying this fact.

The pipeline of dnf to drunz interests me because Im a firm believer cgeorge being the worst. This is so important he's selfish he's apathetic he feels nothing for others' pain etc

And so like with that in mind I think cgeorge would be the problem in the relationship but cdream would be the one to break it off for. Many reasons methinks. And then cgeorge fucks off into the woods for the rest of his career but wait sit with me cdnf in the throws of a messy divorce while the elections and shit are happening

Like george is like "duuuude I'm gonna be like vice president and shit... I'm Not gonna have time for you" and dream would be like "Dude We Literally Have Lived Through Half Our Lives Together We Fought In A War" and george would be like "yeeeeahhhhhh but like... it's not really good at all anymore y'know" PLEASEEEEEE anyone listen to me cgeorge is the problem he would break up with you over text

and now dream, fresh out of fumbling the baddest bitch on the server, does his whole spiel of being secretive and evil or whatever as cgeorge fucks off into the woods for a bit before the whole king thing which I would like to interpret as two freshly divorced men trying realllly hard to act normal around each other and failing miserably and then Punz rolls his ass up and him and dream fall in love or something sometimes later fixes glasses I dunno the drunz timeline unfortunately but punz falls first just like all of dream's love interests except for his Evil Ex Who Doesn't Fall In Love At All

The drunznotfound relationship is both a poly relationship and a true love triangle because punz is in love with dream but dream has complicated feelings on that dream is in love with george because he's the closest he's ever been to someone and george stopped giving a fuck like ten years ago and george is in love with punz because punz feels unattainable and like a challenge. Normally people like punz trip over themselves to win his favor but punz just seems apprehensive to him. Etc. But at the same time they're all in love with each other. Complicatedly.

Dream is in love with punz because he's the only one that's still around, really the only one he can rely on at all. George is in love with dream because even if they fucked it up there's still care there and he can feel it and maybe on the off day he can think of it. And punz is in love with george beecause it's dangerous. etc.

I could probably yap for another 300 paragraphs but I think I'll end it here and feel free to send as many asks on this ship as you want I have a treasure trove of every single thought I've had on them ever
