those buzzards were always sus (thoughts!)
i forget how canon these comics are; i heard that frank said manny’s debut comic is canon? someone correct me please
Issue #8:
The buzzards got along with Manny—I fear the idea of him turning on our squad, Gyro most especially. Not sure how unlikely this is though, given how much Manny has helped our squad.
Gyro has a lot of beef with the buzzards. Whether it goes deeper than Astrob.o.y.d. or not is something to speculate on.
They view Gyro as a threat to this money bin explicitly. It’s likely they know Gyro is genuinely a good person despite the malfunction of his robots, and they seem to recognize how threatening Gyro can be even without them (“All in favor of moving our offices far away from here?” - Bradford Buzzard, considering the idea that Gyro may come after them for revenge)
They definitely know about Dr. Akita based on their precautions about Gyro, plus the 2BO situation destroyed Tokyolk, which would’ve gotten not just their’s but the whole world’s attention. There’s no explicit dialogue concerning Akita being under F.O.W.L., but the imagery surrounding him and his personality and behavior seem to fit F.O.W.L. standards. I hope Akita joins F.O.W.L.
Is this proof that the Buzzards (or at least Bradford) has combat experience??? Dude smacked Manny down to unconsciousness in one hit.
If the show gave us one thing, it’s that Bradford has nimble fingers—if he was threatened while armed with a lazer gun, you’d be pistol whipped and shot before you even realize that the bastard has a firearm (Bradford solves a rubik’s cube in seconds mid-speech, from the Double-O-Duck episode)
A thought concerning this issue is that Scrooge suspected the Buzzards wanting to take over McDuck enterprises—the frames above show why despite these suspicions, Scrooge still trusts these guys. (Supporting this is the fact the Scrooge knew these guys since the 60s, as shown in Last Christmas. Come think of it, how are these Buzzards alive and kicking?!) This is why they have power over McDuck’s finances—not complete power, but a significant amount nonetheless.
One speculation I am confident in is that they definitely steal from Scrooge’s bin; despite this corruption, Scrooge is still the richest in the world so a little wouldn’t hurt. I mean, its effect is so little that it still gave Scrooge a chance to win against Glomgold during their Season 2 bet. The accountants definitely have guns to their heads, or F.O.W.L. agents breathing on their necks, rather, probably forced to omit the corruptions and commit fallacies on the financial reports. Imagine the trouble Scrooge would have to endure inside and outside the business should word of this corruption get out onto media. He’ll lose investors and lose money—the most he’ll have left will probably be the treasures he found during adventures, which have been fairly diminished due to the Spear of Selene incident
Theories concerning the Buzzards having something to do with the Spear of Selene incident is something I support—it clicks with motivations related to taking over the company. They actually could’ve taken over while Scrooge was grieving, but it’s clear that based on the flashback from Last Crash of the Sunchaser that they still kept to their jobs as managers of Scrooge’s expenditures, to the point of dragging him back to work. Perhaps they knew Della was alive?
Issue #13:
These are F.O.W.L. meetings, right?
By this time, they have to be. They repeatedly insist that they’re late throughout this issue.
