Rey gave him the smallest sideways glance, doing her best not give him her attention, pretending she cared immensely about her form as she practiced a high kick. Maybe not high enough to catch him, in the throat, but anyone else, and she thought she could make her target when it came to attacking a real person.

“Who says I want to?” she asked testily, both annoyed that she had to wait until they were alone to kiss him, and that she wanted to, despite the first fact.

“It’s not as if you left me much else to wear,” she pointed out, attention more focused on the machinery before her than on him. Granted, the top she’d been wearing last night had been tight and meant to entice, definitely not the sort of thing for wandering about half asleep in, and even if he hadn’t torn it the night before she’d have far preferred the soft shirt that carried his scent.

It wasn’t as much fun to just admit it, however, and she only turned around to face him once her mug was full and between her hands, a soft smirk playing on her lips. “Besides, it looks better on me,” she added, daring him to contradict her.

Plutt’s thugs had caught her at the end of the long day spent scavenging, exhausted and starved and stepping up to trade what she’d found for whatever the blobfish would give her. Despite her best efforts she couldn’t stop them from dragging her into the tent set up to prepare the women, and men, they occasionally gave up to the First Order in exchange for leaving Niima Outpost alone, or just to especially vile smugglers who were willing to pay.

The sight of the masked and cloaked beast inside took most of the fight out of her, replaced by terror as she was shoved to the ground before it. Stuffing her fear back before it could take her over, she curled her lips into a snarl, looking for any sort of weakness in the – for lack of a better term – monster’s clothing, or even the dented and scratched mask it wore.

Mine.

It wasn’t necessarily the first time someone had wanted to claim her – Plutt had wanted to own her, and she’d always quietly known that sooner or later he would have decided to follow through on it had she not left – but this was different.

It makes her skin feel hot and her heartbeat feel impossibly loud, and she wants to make him repeat it over and over until it’s all but etched onto her for everyone to see. Until she forgets what it’s like to be unwanted, left with not even a token of what she might have once belonged to.

It makes her press into him, tilting her face just so, allowing her lips to brush against his collar bone and for his scent to surround her. (She wonders if he can feel her heartbeat too, how it seems to speed up at his declaration.) Even better than being his, she knows that he is hers.

“Only yours,” she says so quietly she isn’t even sure he hears her. It’s a truth in so many ways she isn’t sure she’s ready to tell him, but it feels good to release it into the air, as if it makes it more real. More concrete.

The beard hadn’t looked so terrible, really, hadn’t taken much from his appearance, but why should she exist with anyone -- least of all him -- and keep her words all honey and sweetness? She didn’t even do that in the best of circumstances, let alone being trapped on a planet she didn’t care for, with him for company.

This was hardly the worst outcome that could have come out of his coming right back at her, and as she concentrates on making him look less ridiculous, eyes zeroing in on the blade pressing against him, she can’t help the contentment lapping at her, calming her despite her angry outburst only several minutes ago. Whatever he says, he clearly trusts to not only hand her a blade but to remain still and prone while she holds it so close to his throat.

Rey refuses to admit how much that means to her.

Nevertheless, the timbre of his voice drew her gaze from his jaw -- and stupidly soft looking lips -- to his dark gaze. “Would you stop rushing me,” she demands, nearly wagging her finger in his face before remembering herself. “You can go back to acting like wampa after I’m done making you look like a person again.”
