Please Listen To My DEMOS Mixtape Contest Winners are announced!

The winners to Kevin Nottingham's 'Please Listen To My Demos Mixtape Contest' have now been announced! DEMOS is a documentary film intended to educate and inspire emerging music artists by providing insight on ways to establish and further their careers. Narrated by Grammy award-winning hip hop poet J Ivy, DEMOS features an eclectic mix of industry veterans, established artists such as Talib Kweli, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, DJ Quik, Naughty by Nature, Mac 10, Marley Marl, Rapper Big Pooh, Da Beatminerz, Jean Grae, Statik Selektah, DJ Rhettmatic, Shyheim, Dwele, and up-and-coming artists like Mac Miller, J Davey, Wax, and Dumbfoundead. With 150+ entries, submissions were broken down to 36 demos that were deemed good enough to make it on the mixtape.  The 36 will be split into two volumes, with 18 tracks making it onto Volume 1 (which should be released next week) and 18 tracks for Volume 2 (for release in mid June).  The first mixtape is currently being mixed by HiPNOTT Records’ in-house DJ Mark-1 and will be presented by Unique Squared & DubCNN. In promotion for the upcoming music documentary, DEMOS: An Independent Artist's Guide To Success, we hosted a contest for independent artists to submit their "demo" for a chance to have their music included in our upcoming promotional mixtapes. Over 150 submissions were received and 36 artists won a spot. In addition, one track in particular won us over so much that we asked to have that song be included in the film's official soundtrack (due later this year). Congratulations to Jacy Elizabeth for winning us over!

Please Listen To My DEMOS Volume 1, presented by HiPNOTT Records, Unique Squared and DubCNN, is mixed by DJ Mark-1 and features 18 of the 36 winners from the first leg of the contest.  This mixtape represents independent hip hop at its finest!  Volume 2 will be released in mid-June, followed by the second leg of the contest in July for independent artists to win a chance to be featured on volumes 3 & 4 of the mixtape series.
