Mini-review:

The day has come for The Bear to finally close down its doors, and it went out with a bang. Bringing things back to basics is the best thing they could have done for the final season. Many of the two previous seasons' issues came from the ever-sprawling ensemble and storylines, so setting these final episodes around (mostly) one single day kind of puts a stop to that. It might seem like that would cripple the character development or the story's resolutions, but the writers made it work surprisingly well. The last three episodes are particularly remarkable. And of course, the cast's work is simply pitch perfect. All in all, The Bear had a somewhat rocky run, but all's well that ends well.

Mini-review:

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of hate this season has been getting from fans. Was it as good as the previous two? Maybe not, but it's still miles ahead of almost everything else on TV these days. I guess the problem is the first two had specific endpoints in mind (saving The Beef and building The Bear, respectively) and this one doesn't, which is what makes it feel rather adrift. Still, I don't think that's a bad thing, per se. This shift means plot takes a step back to focus almost completely on the inner workings of the restaurant and the characters, which in turn helps us learn so much about all of them. Seriously, how can you say it's a bad season when we get episodes like the one about Tina or the one about Natalie and her mother? And sure, the plot might not advance too much, but we get a true acting masterclass in every episode. So yeah, this season of The Bear might be slower and more contemplative, but in my opinion it's almost as momentous as the first two.
