"it’s the refusal of male game developers to work on any game that might not appeal to them." Talk to me about this because it's something that I kinda used to think about (then just brushed off any game that didn't appeal to me I.e: COD) I feel like you know more about that so I kind of want your insight. I previously believed it encouraged competition in the market so with time people would change gears.
Competition in the market is part of it I think, but a small part of it. I honestly assumed something similar because I sorta believed that there weren’t many other girl gamers. It was only after I learned that females make up almost half of the demographic of “gamers” (there are other sources…I am lazy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_and_video_games#Female_gamers_as_a_demographic).
So, if girls make up half of the group of people that buys video games, then why aren’t there more games made with them in mind? The developers. Many other developers have spoken out about this before, some of them female and some of them male.
I also think part of it is the fact that they fear backlash from the male gaming community, which is apparently riddled with sexist morons:
instances of backlash/ an informative article overall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_representation_in_video_games#Objectification_and_sexualization
"GamerGate" where a bunch of men are doxxing women who want games with equal/fair representation of women
