Writing Goals for September

the following will probably mean almost nothing to almost all of you

1. Write LEIGH 4, EXECUTOR 2, and NICOLE 5, finish MARS.

2. Edit/rewrite PROLOGUE

3. Edit/rewrite NICOLE 2, VARGAS 2, and NICOLE 3

that’s actually a shitload of stuff to do, but I think I can do it if I stick to it diligently. having goals helps

also sorry for anyone who reads dragonrise but that is kinda on the backburner for a lil bit. whoops.

so theherocomplex has been doing this thing this month where she’s been doing word-sprints as part of a creativity challenge ... which as i understand it is an organized monthly thing. but it’s also a cool idea. I’ve been in a writing slump lately (thanks, delirious sickness), so I thought I’d go ahead and just start my own little thing now, because I think it could be a productive way to get back on track. Let’s call it an ... honesty log.

So this is just me honestly logging how much I write daily. Like a less-fun version of what theherocomplex is doing. Which is basically me in a nutshell. A less-fun version of something someone else is doing.

Anyway, that out of the way....

the tricky thing about writing nicole in shadow of empyrean is that she’s become such an incredibly important character to me that it’s absolutely essential that I get her right....

but at the same time, when I’m looking back on it, did I really get her “right” the first time? Beyond the Fire isn’t perfectly told. There are little half-starts and fits and story threads that don’t go anywhere. Her characterization takes about 15 chapters to fully level out. I think I might be undercutting myself by looking at nearly 400000 combined words and comparing them to the first few I’ve written from her perspective in SoE.
