so i actually have a quick tip for y’all who want to correct this kind of thinking for yourself!!
get good books/tv shows/movies/albums written, created, or starring self-proclaimed Big Ladies (i use this phrase with all the love possible; “body positive” didn’t seem right because it’s just their bodies not a superficial state of mind) (extra points for women of color and queer folks who happen to be Thicccc)
read/watch/listen to this content! whether it’s Eloquent Rage by Brittney Cooper, the Fat Adventures series by Marita Fowler, Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy, or songs by Etta James, Aretha Franklin, or Leslie West, or movies/shows like My Mad Fat Diary, Fattitude, Disjointed (Kathy Bates is an icon), or legit anything that’s ever been made with Rosie O’Donnell, there is plenty of content out there that deserves your attention.
When you’re taking in these works, imagine the author/singer/actress/filmmaker sitting in their pajamas, with an adorable doggo right next to them, or their partner at the end of the couch, and they’re writing chicken scratch notes about this project. they’re writing the incredible line you just read. they’re hurrying from their shower to a notepad because they came up with that brilliant idea and couldn’t let it disappear. they’re singing their hit that just got airtime while donning a tank top and sweats. maybe they woke up the day of their press tour with makeup smeared over their eyes still, maybe they are crying on the phone hearing they’re getting an adaptation, maybe they’re scooping out ice cream while getting over a terrible review, just like everyone does.
this is the way you humanize them. imagine them not having time or energy to get dressed up just to be considered human. imagine them redefining what they’re willing to do to become famous. imagine them having sparks of creativity, their minds moving on magic and coffee, papers strewn about in tight balls meant for the recycling.
people who have fat are also human. you know how i know? because of course they are!
I love Dumplin’ (both the book and the movie) but after reading the book I really feel cheated out of a lot of good scenes in the movie. Especially ones between Bo and Will......
Request: Hey, I'm the person that requested Bo:) Do you think you could do one where you feel insecure and he comforts you, please? I can't really think of a lot of details but if you think of anything else to add that would be epic. Thank you !!
A/N: Really hope you like this, I loved the movie Dumplin and really wanted to do good on this. This is my first non-Teamiplier story so I hope everyone enjoys it.
You looked in the mirror closely, inspecting your figure with a scowl. You sighed pulling and mashing your face poking at flaws you thought were there. Today was not a good day, your self-esteem was low and with it so was your mood. It felt like everything you tried to do to make yourself feel confident wasn't working, you thought your makeup was cakey, and you had smudged your eyeliner three times and had to redo it. You tried ten different outfits, your room was in shambles with clothes strewn across the bed yet if you didn’t decide soon you’d be late. You weren’t about to let a bad mood ruin a day to spend with your boyfriend. So, you dressed in a simple bland outfit to complement your insecure attitude. Because at this moment the idea of wearing anything other than some pants and a shirt made you dread even walking out of the house.
Just as you were lacing up your shoes your phone dinged, the screen light up with a text:
I’m here ;)
Bo Larson was waiting patiently outside your house in his truck. He had cleaned up from his usual diner attire, and he was currently fiddling with his hair in the rear view mirror making sure it was perfect. Once he noticed you were making your way to him he flashed his signature smile and chivalrously got out to open your door for you. “(Y/N)” he greeted as he wrapped his arm around your waist stopping you momentarily, he kissed you quickly just as you pulled you away with a sheepish smile. He shut the door once you climbed in, and did a walk/jog back to the front.
“How’s my girl doing?” He asked as he strapped his seatbelt in. “I’m good, what about you?” “I’m great” he held your hand as he began driving, he talked a lot about school and his friends, then about the diner and how busy it had been for the last couple of days. All while, you listened quietly which gave Bo a small sign something was off. It was in your nature to be talkative especially around him, some days he couldn’t get you to shut up for two seconds. Soon he had run out of things to talk about and decided to be quiet, yet he continued to rub small gentle strokes into your hand with his thumb as you made your way to your date, a decent restaurant for an evening out.
The car was filled with comfortable silence. The radio was playing a low hum in the background, while the windows were rolled down letting a small breeze cooling the car from the summer's day. Halfway through the car ride, Bo spoke up interrupting your absentminded staring at the landscape zooming by. "Are you okay darling?" you tuned in "what? yeah, I'm fine..." you answered in an attempt to brush off his concern. "You don't seem alright, I mean usually I can't get you to shut up, but right now you're quiet, and I just want to make sure you're good." You couldn't help but smile at his kind words. "I'm just having a rough day Bo." You squeezed his hand as a way to ease his worries. "What's going on, talk to me (Y/N)," Bo begged "I'm just not feeling that great today" you sighed out a little. "I'm not sick. I'm just uncomfortable." Bo tensed "did I do something?" "No! Bo, I mean I'm feeling a little uneasy, I don't think I look too good today." You almost gagged at how cliche and annoyingly dramatic you sounded, yet you couldn't figure out any other way to explain your emotions. Bo's eyes softened as he empathized with you. Just as you were finishing your sentence, he pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. He put the car in park and turned to you. "(Y/N), you're beautiful, baby." He demanded your attention. "I love you (Y/N), I hate when you put yourself down. You deserve the world, and I want you to see that. I adore everything about you darling, your face, your body, your lips..." he trailed off as he kissed you lightly, he trailed his hands along your hips. He kissed you again making you melt, any insecurities you had was distracted. "I love you too babe" you smiled caressing his cheek, your fingers traced his stubble. "Thank you" you returned his kiss.
"Ready for our date?" he said after a bit more kissing. "You know it" you smirked in reply. He smiled laughing slightly. Once again he stepped out of the car to open your door and help you down. Bo Larson had a way with words you loved his charm and the way he could change your mood so easily, "Babygirl, you're the best girl a guy could ask for." He said giving you a warm hug. "I know" you teased and raised your feet to kiss him. "That's my girl" he smirked.
I am so infuriated over Netflix not realeasing Dumplin’ worldwide. It only available in like 2 or 3 countries and that is not enough.
Why do they not release such an important movie to as many as possible instead of a movie like Sierra Burges? While Sierra Burges sent many wrong messages, Dumplin’ is empowering and sweet and all around lovely.
And I only know this because I had to stream it illegally because it’s only available on Netflix US and a few select others (I believe UK, Canada and maybe Germany as well but I could be wrong). Why is the rest of the world deprived of this movie????? Please give me an answer because I don’t understand and it really makes me question the moral and principles of Netflix.
I hope against hope that they will fix it if we shout loud enough.
