dumpster scores were a little slim this year but my fridge stayed full and the homies stay eating. godbless the midnight shoppers. the snap benefits rug-pull this year threatened folk's ability 2 feed themselves, get a headlamp and gloves cause it's not gonna get better.

It's been a while. I was too lazy to go. Sadly zero fruits or veggies this week, and one business seem to 'tidy up their act' with leaving things to be destoyed outside. Only pita bread and 7 chala breads (there were 2 huge bags full of chalas & buns).

This is crazy to me. I've worked in so many retail stores in Australia and very little was ever thrown out. Do they not have factory outlets there?

Dumpster Diving Safety Guide:

First: wear what you can spare.

Seriously, don’t wear your nice shoes to go dumpster diving, you never know what you’ll get into.

Change into clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Put on your boots, tennis shoes, or anything that is non-slip, at the very least wear closed toed shoes

don’t wear anything that dangles.

Tie up your hair if it’s long

Physical: safe is smart

Invest the money in a flashlight so you don’t risk dropping your $200 phone in a dumpster!

Never ever EVER get inside a dumpster without someone who is physically able to spot you and help you get in and out, ok? Never.

A grabby stick is a good alternative to getting inside dumpsters.

In general, always have somebody with you.

Health:

Avoid opening bags with paper towels/food packaging/food scraps

Keep hand sanitizer with you, use it before using the bathroom or eating.

Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Rinse/wipe down the outside packaging of anything if it appears dirty, came in contact with something that was dirty, or came into contract with mystery dumpster fluid.

Rinse produce before putting is away and right before eating/preparing

After all is said and done, disinfect your car’s high touch surfaces, at least your steering wheel and door handles

And lastly, always take a shower after dumpster diving!
