Coronation Street | 5th January 2025 opening sequence (Todd & Theo strand)
If you want to learn more about the filmmaking for this episode and Corriedale to understand why and how they looked so different to usual episodes, I really recommend reading this post by @jmflowers which goes into some of the technological differences that were employed on this shooting block.
In the above gifs, you can see some of the Steadicam work that janelle talked about, with the camera moving smoothly around all the people during the dancing sequence. The prime lenses stopped down to a wide aperture results in the shallow depth of field that's evident in the shot of Todd, and the first shot of Theo - notice how the background softens and grows increasingly out of focus as he moves further away from the door. And the bokeh effect on the lights is super evident in the opening shot before it comes into focus and in the shot where Christina grabs Theo - the shallow depth of field means he stays in focus in the foreground, while the background softens. And then of course there's the colour grade (which obvs is not entirely intact in these gifs as I do my own colouring but is noticeably different when you watch the episode), the same as that used for Corriedale and that day's Emmerdale episode to maintain a consistent look across all three.
