Dundas Castle
Dundas Castle is located in the Dalmeny Parish of West Lothian in Scotland. This 15th century castle was built by the Dundas Clan who obtained a license to build a keep from the Duke of Albany, the effective ruler of Scotland at that time. The keep was extended into an L-plan in 1436. It was Henry Dundas who replaced a portion of the 17th century building in 1818 and rebuilt it in the Tudor-Gothic style. Unfortunately, due to building costs for the castle and the extensive gardens, the property was sold in 1875 and switched ownership numerous times. Sir Jack Stewart Clark eventually inherited the property in 1995, and restored the keep and castle. The keep has been inhabited for over three hundred years. Electricity, heating, plumbing, a kitchen, and toilet facilities were added and the rooms underwent refurbishment and redesign under the guidance of Sir Jack’s wife, Lydia, who is an interior decorator. Dundas Castle currently serves as a five star “exclusive use” venue for weddings and special events; it also serves as a hotel with 17 bedrooms. There is a boathouse on the property, utilized as a secluded retreat for two.
