I'll take my serotonin any way I can get it.
This was absolutely incredible. I devoured the previous books, and so had a minor wait for this one - and with a wait comes the inevitable worry that the sequel might not live up to the hype, to the desperate need for more.
This fulfilled every hope and every dream.
It didn’t have *quite* as many in-your-face gut wrenching moments as some of the previous books, (I’m thinking of you, gargoyle who can’t sing anymore) but held so many small, quiet sections, with blink and you’ll miss it sorrow. Doughnut wiping her paw, the messages from crawlers as they pass along spells, the NPC stories unfurling in the background.
The parade itself.
Us as the reader wincing with shock as the crawlers take pain in their stride, so used to it, now. Hurting and trying so hard and risking it all. The plot had to speed up and it did it really well, sensibly and without feeling forced. I won’t say any more about that, to avoid spoilers, but I’m very glad Dinniman took the path he did.
We’ll watch the potted plants together 💖
Speaking of plot, I did (as always) have a few moments where I blinked a few times and went back a couple of pages, reading it two or three times to fully understand what was being revealed, but if it’s going the way I think it is, I can’t wait - I’m so excited.
Another incredible book from a truly wonderful series.
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman fanart!
Imagine opening a window for a smoke at 2am. Your ex’s foo foo cat leaps out the window, so you grab your jacket and your ex’s crocs to go outside to get her.
Then, every building in the world and everyone inside them are smashed and sucked into the ground.
You and everyone else who survived? You have the option of trying to survive on the surface, or fight to get your planet back in an underground dungeon/labyrinth for the entertainment of aliens.
You’re essentially in a video game/reality show no one expects you to win, with a cat as your only companion.
I’m not even accurately giving you all the information about this book. There’s so much going on. It’s being adapted into a series, and I think it will be perfect for that. It will be amazing as a show.
Anyway, check it out. 💋
I haven’t even finished reading this book yet, but when you gotta do fanart, you just gotta. 🤷♀️

Survival has more than one meaning. I'm trying so, so hard...
A book about a dude in his underwear, his pompous cat, and an infantile, edgelord AI should never have gotten this deep.
