Crossing for Crystals...pt III
**using original characters, inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. My friend wants to start a party, and while creating a centaur character I was hit with the mood to write. The first time in a LONG time. The locations are also original, as well as the “muliln” species mentioned - I developed them a few years ago, but never got around to actually using them realistically. So here’s using them for fun! Emphasis on FUN…this is by no means serious stuff.**
“Your centaur friend is going to try to travel with you,” the redheaded woman said quietly. Her voice nearly obscured by the crackling fire from where she crouched near the fireplace.
“Why do you say that?” Nefshka watched the flames, one ear angled toward Liso’s quiet, unclogged breathing. He had already improved, soon they would be able to continue on.
“He has heard the stories, he thinks you can help him.”
“Which stories?”
“The ones everyone knows. The Fall of Nibondur, the Rising of Eraph. Fire in the Ashen Plain. Its not the content of the story a centaur concerns itself with, its the how and why of it. You are destined toward the unnatural, or so they have decided. Talk of you and your exploits are like legends to centaur. They don’t live nearly as long as your kind. Not many of us do. What seems only a few years to you is their entire lifetime. Let him follow you for a while. You may be surprised by what happens.”
“Wild opinions by someone who barely knows me.”
“Magic is strange here, Nefshka. It’s not like what you’re used to. What makes you think I know so little, or that I have barely known you. What if this is your first time meeting me...but not my first time meeting you? You are quite out of your depth here, in this place.”
“That does not surprise me.”
“So will you let the centaur accompany you?”
“Is that wise counsel from one with your claims?”
“Perhaps.”
“What choice do I have, then?”
“More of a choice than you assume,” she said.
Nefshka tilted his head her direction, eyeing her suspiciously. “How much do you know?”
She shrugged, stood, and walked to the door. “Let the centaur travel with you. You’ll be grateful you did.”
