The Dream | One-Shot
“With you, I already know I’m worthy.“
Corey:
There was the soft pitter patter of frozen rain glimmering outside. Paired with a bone chilling wind, this was no time to be outside. The whole city was at rest, just like Corey; filling up a well worn spot atop Jackson’s sofa. His eyes were shut while he listened and lost himself to the imperfect sense of peace and normality. Departed, separated, from the magical realm to be surrounded by the mundane. But at least this mundane realm was quiet, uneventful, and embraced him in its warmth without consequence or bardering required. On a Christmas morning, Corey’s mind abandoned all else. Incapable of dwelling on what was possibly wrong before, because when he opened his eyes toward a faint motion he knew that Jackson was here. “I wish I could have made it last night.” Corey smiled through the regret while righting himself to greet Jack. “Did you go to a party or something?”
Jackson:
"You were busy." Jackson said lightly, even if part of he didn't feel quite real with...well, everything. "Saving the world. Entering the Greek troops or whatever. " It still felt like a world was between them even when he was right here in front of him. "I get it though." Jackson said easily, brushing aside any guilt the other might have had. He was, however, wearing a red santa hat and red boxers and nothing else. His bare chest on display as he strolled into the room with a bright, typical Jackson light smile. " Not really. Just a lowkey night with Netflix and no chill." The former demi-god teased as he dropped into the seat next to the redhead. His eyes meeting the others. "I'm glad you came at all, Cor." he said easily, his hand linking with the other as he pressed a kiss the others cheek. "No one else I'd rather spend Christmas with."
Corey:
It was incredible to have come this far, despite all the damage. The wrong doings. Corinth could still feel the heartache of that morning and the weeks that followed after, but why dwell? Especially with Jackson dressed so... “Festive, as always.” He smiled, chuckled, and drew both feet off of the floor to curl atop the couch. Their fingers slid together and the innocent kiss at his jaw could pierce the veil where their realities divided. “That sounds even sadder if I picture you wearing this outfit at the same time.” The joke came easy, but was fleeting, and he traded the bright smile and laughter to gently kiss the center of his universe. Jack’s words to follow made Cor slide closer, adjusting that santa hat from the puff end playfully, to combat that faint longing. “You know nothing could keep me from you.” He muttered, quietly. “Everyday was ours, but... especially this time. I can’t face the rest, play a part, not without you.”
Jackson:
"Hey, gotta slutty up the season. Can't just have Halloween steal all the thunder. " Jackson joked easily, a little smile on his face as the other curled up on the couch. It felt nice to be this close to Corey, even if it was all...well, hard to know how real it all was. Or how temporary it was. " Pft. Would you rather I said jerked off to porn and went to bed. Sounds way, way more sadder." He joked, his eyes giving that little twinkle as he smiled as the other moved closer, his lips returning that kiss as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Like it was almost meant to be. " I wasn't about to bet against you. " Jackson mused, even if he wondered sometimes he deserved this punishment somehow. There's a gentle sigh at those quiet words, a hand brushed up to trace down the boys neck. " What about Henri? Or Asher? Or Milo or.. They need you. You know." He pointed out before he pressed a kiss to the others shoulder. " But I never want you to play a part. You're...the boy I feel in love with was so open. So..don't shut yourself down just because.." he paused as he leaned back to meet those eyes. " Just focus on us for a little while. You earned that."
Corey:
The jokes resonated with him as well as ever, and it felt amazing to laugh again. At Jackson’s expense. It was only proof of who Corey truly loved; the man before the god. So. Nothing had truly been lost, if only the constant presence. “Alright. That’s a fair point.” He chuckled, half picturing Jack had one of those presents that fit on a cock saved up for later—but there was surely no present that could fit that erection. Jack had proven him wrong before though... “They’re there... and I’m there. Doing what’s required.” He explained, leaning against the hand at his neck and staring up with dark eyes. Touched, as Jackson reflected on the best he had to offer. That the real Corey was never someone he meant to hold and keep for himself. “The truth is... you’re the first thing—person, in my life... that I’ve ever truly wanted.” The musician admitted. He’d had enough time to think it all through, why... why Jackson’s place in his life differed from Henri. All who’d come before. “With you, I already know I’m worthy. So... yeah..” His hand turned to hold Jackson’s carefully and he nudged his lips against the others cheek. Drank all of this in. “This is nice...” he did as he was told; took in the now. And tried not to cry. “We’ll have this. Forever. When it’s over”
Jackson:
There was a bright smile at that laugh, even now it felt so very, very good to make the boy laugh like that. So pure and light- like god damn sunshine. "I have those sometimes. " He joked easily, his eyes dancing over at the other. He gently traced his thumb down the others jawline as he met those dark eyes with his own. It felt...weighty, some how to hear the other admit to that. Like it was something their fathers and mothers would be shocked to hear their own kin put such wants ahead of anything. " You're allowed to want those things, Corey. You're allowed to wish for a life that isn't...what you have." He said, calming those fears gently as he gave a little smile. "And you're worthy of the whole damn world. Red, the whole god damn world." There was never gonna be someone like Corey for Jackson, not again. Not back in his normal life. Cut off from magic. Hell, even if he rejoined the others. Corey was just...his destiny and every inch of his body knew that on a cellular level. A hand cupped the others neck proper as he gave a little nod at the feeling of those lips brushing against his cheek, his head turning to bump their foreheads together lightly. "More than nice.." he said easily. "Hm, promise?" He said lightly. Even if he wasn't even sure "path" Corey was on had a over. "I'll hold you to it."
Corey:
His heart was throbbing in his chest, close to ringing against both ear drums, but Jackson smiled through it all. Reminding him that there was no reason... that he shouldn’t be too. Corinth use to think that he didn’t need permission, validation, in what he felt. What he now wanted. But damn, did it feel nice to be shown that what he saw in Jackson between the dream and potential was exactly what Jack saw in him. Even now. Though it ached, he couldn’t keep from smiling, chuckling at the huge prospect. To be worthy of the whole world? Only Jackson could make him see that. He would still trade it all away if it meant having Jackson. “Olympus did save me...” He thought aloud, finding a dim silver lining. “it brought us together. I... I am living the life that’s meant for me. My want is just going to have to be stalled for awhile.” He still had an inkling that this was for the best. Jackson was safe and wouldn’t come between their paths any longer. He kissed him again, “You’ve always been worthy too... of what you’ve hoped and dreamed. All I can offer.” It really was more that nice. There were the loud busy parties, but nothing could beat these private personal conversations. He would cling to this moment, this feeling with his life. It would give him reason to strive to survive with each new task. “I’ll try and make it fast for us...” Cor added, mapping the smooth, warm, angle and dip of Jackson’s beautiful cheek. “I love you, baby... this is the best Christmas I’ve ever had.”
Jackson:
" Yeah. And I suppose it gave us this, as well. " Granted, it had also taken Jackson away in a cruel twist of fate but hey, that's not really helping to dwell on that. "Just for a while, Red. I promise in a blink of an eye, you'll be here and you'll already be sick of me." he teased with a little nip into that kiss before he returned it without hesitation for the other boy. " You know I'll take whatever you can give me. And I know-..how you see me. And I adore trying to live up to that." Even now Jackson had a few self worth issues. "I know you will.." He said lightly, giving the others side a little squeeze as he closed his eyes at the feeling of the others lips against his cheek, a faint smile on his lips. It was tempting to push forward, to talk about the others issues at the camp, about why he left and about the other boys there. But it was Christmas and it was...well, something Corey should look back on without thinking about any bad shit. Right? "I love you too, Corey." It was said without a hint of a fear. "Hnm oh yeah? And I don't even have you on all fours deep dicking you yet.." Jackson added, unable to stop himself even now, a gentle chuckle escaping his lips. "Hm.. mine too. "
Corey:
He nodded and held go Jackson. Finally at ease again, like time hadn’t come between. Like they’d never been apart. A quiet laugh tucked inbetween them and Corey wondered if his best friend Asher could help expedite the final reunion with help from Cronus... Not even the prospect of success and forever held a candle to loving Jackson now. His palm slid to hold behind Jack’s neck and Corey could sigh from what full, life giving comfort, such familiar lips could bring. “I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be; when the sky falls, at least we don’t give up on each other. Never.” Jackson had illustrated that well enough, since the beginning. It was just hard to go back to life before Jackson. Extremely difficult. “And what do you want, Jack?” It seemed this had all been about him and... Corey had the sneaking worry that his passion of their past would not align with Jackson after he’d returned. The son of Apollo didn’t want to bring turmoil into the others life, confusion, rob him of a normal life. Another love. Yet Jackson still said those three words to him... and it was once more like not a single step had been lost. Miraculously. The weight of those words escaping the raven haired “god’s” lips would never be lost too him. How much it cost Jackson to be so vulnerable. For their sake. “Oh, so that’s my present?” Corey laughed again, cuddled near, his heart steadied and sparkling alive again. “Not that I’m complaining. At all.”
Jackson:
It was hard in a lot of ways, to be like this. To know that there was an end point on this happiness. At least for a while but...well, that just made it more important to savior every moment, right? "What do I want?" There was a little blink at that question as he drew back enough to meet the others eyes again. " I want you...safe, mostly. Even in the moments when I can't quite remember you. I want you safe. I want you with me. I want you happy. And laughing, I want you to have a life Corey. I want to be selfish and keep you but I'm not gonna hold it against you if you find...well, company before you find me." He pointed out with a little faint smile. " I love you. You're what I want. " But it was hard to think about that distance between them and how much heartbreak it must have caused Corey. " But don't doubt for a single moment that you're not something I need in my life. Now and however long it takes. Yeah?" He pointed out, giving a little cup of the others neck as his thumb traced overs lips. "Does that make sense? I feel like it doesn't " He added with a little cute scrunch of his nose before he dropped his head with a gentle laugh. "OOoh would you like to to be your present. You can take every inch. " he teased, giving a little wiggle before be pushed off the chair and walked towards the Christmas tree to scoop up a wrapped present with blazing suns all of the wrapping paper. "This is actually your present." Jackson moved back and gently placed it in Corey's lap. " Merry Christmas, Corey."
Corey:
Just when the faintest doubt crept into the back of his mind that Jackson might not answer, the love of his life proved him wrong again by speaking such thoughtful truth. Uncensored and bold, but sweet as a kiss, nurturing in a distantly familiar sense. To be wanted and truly loved... but still free. These were ideals the pair miraculously shared. A confidence in their love. It made it clear for Cor that this was the genuine article. "Really?" He countered, smiling, though his heart was once more fluttering. "How selfless of a wish is that?" A light flush rose to his cheeks and ears before he captured Jack's lips in another kiss, "I want you happy too... and that freedom, like I promised you before. Like you promised me. It's alright." Jackson had so much to offer the world and... so did he, no matter how much it beat them down. "I love you..." He whispered back, that smile growing in a humble way. His palm pet the other's arm and hand, in a way that Corey hoped would be soothing. When Jackson asked, Cor was ready to nod and validate all he said. Touched to know that he was someone, would remain that someone, Jack needed too... "'total sense." He laughed gently, "It's everything... I needed to hear that." Jackson remained the most courageous man Corey knew... in ways beyond the battlefield. In every way that actually counted for something. It was no wonder that Corinth had fallen for him entirely... Just as the intimate moment seemed to reach its peak, Jackson couldn't resist playing into Corey's blissful assumption. The redhead bit his lip to smile in the face of such attention, but then the balance had shifted on the couch as his mortal love--still dressed like stripper santa--plucked up a gift from beneath the apartment sized tree. The wrapping paper golden, shimmering with the faint pattern of the sun. "You got me something?" Cor was astonished, but supposed he shouldn't be... The shock didn't stand in the way of Corey taking what was offered and dwelling on it for a moment. "I--... thank you." The smile was once more a touch sheepish, as he wasn't accustomed to being the center of attention like this. Without keeping Jackson waiting further, he started to peel away the bow and paper. Revealing what was inside.
Jackson:
" It's not that selfless..." Why trap Corey in a life without him? A world that could be so god damn gray and colorless that was the exact opposite of the person Corey should be? Besides, Jackson didn't exactly have all his memories back in the proper world. What sort of relationship is that? But nether the less he returned the kiss easily enough, smiling into it. " As long as you know who has your heart and who has mine. Opening yourself up to...other possibility's, isn't a negative thing." He said lightly, carefully with a faint smile as he met those bright eyes of the other. "I love you so, so much." A far cry from the boy who could barely even think about saying the words when he first met Corey but..well, the Gods did end up making fools of them all in one way or another. "Well I'm glad it made a lick of sense. God knows my thoughts get out of order sometime." He said with an easy wave to his head. "Good. I'm...you know, here for you the best I can be." Considering everything that kept them apart which is..frankly, a lot in the grand scheme of things. There's a little nod as he smiled at that look of surprise on the others face. "Yeah. I got you something at Halloween. " It had been the last big celebration him and Corey been together for and at the time, well, Jackson had been looking forward to Christmas. While it hadn't been the most fun time of year for the boy during his foster years...Corey always managed to make him look at things in a recontexulised setting. It was going to be a celebration for them together. Why not get him a gift? "You're welcome. It should be.." You know back in the real world. " Um. Home, when you look for it." he said easily, settling back down next to the other, his back leaning against the couch as he watched the other undo the paper and bow. Inside was a small lute necklace and a Claddagh ring. A symbol of the gods and then of Jackson's love.
Corey:
Through the stillness of the room kept warm by those radiant rainbow tree lights, Cor drank in every word before finally nodding once more. “I know you’ll take good care of it...” he joked lightly. The same way Jack had always taken care of him. Lifting up his hand once more, Corey settled the palm against the mortal’s left peck to sense the glorious heart his love possessed. “I’m yours... always.” The promise came easy as the echoes of sweet, painless, I love you’s sparkled through the air. Warmed his cheeks from Jackson’s harmless breath and the way the very sight and touch of this man made him glow inside. While Jackson gave himself a hard time over navigating these romantic thoughts, Corinth was simply transfixed. Whatever the discussion... the musician truly couldn’t get enough of his beloved’s voice. “That’s right.” Corinth chuckled, realizing the light nerves had simply left him stuck in this moment. Home. What a perfect gift this would be. Corey had struggled so long between days before and after Jackson and a few others to feel at home again. He grew a bit more earnest to see what was inside and soon opened the box top. Admiring the dim glint of silver revealed atop the white cushioning. Corey couldn’t stop himself from smiling as he took a closer look at the jewelery... and he had them half figured out. The lute, of course, being the incredible symbol of his father, while the ring well he was certain he’d seen one like it before tonight. “Jack, they’re gorgeous.” He beamed, turning on his hip to embrace his lover and kiss him delicately. “Thank you so much... I love it.”
Jackson:
Jack gave a little nod which cause the pom pom on his hat to roll slightly, a smile dancing over his lips as that hand rested on his chest. A hand moving up to brush over Corey's hand. "And I'm always yours, Corey. No matter how much distance...or god bullshit is between us. Yeah?" Even if he didn't exactly want to go back to a life without knowing who he was, at least, well, he could say those words and have them mean everything in the world in this moment. Jackson tilted his head as he watched the other rip oven the box with a faint smile. Even now he still getting butterflies from the whole idea of the other might hate his gifts, those nerves flipping over in his stomach as he shifted on the seat. Thankfully any fears seemed very, very unfounded as the other wrapped his arms around him and Jack returned the kiss without a hint of a hesitation. "Oh yeah? I'm glad like.. I just...wanted to get something perfect. I guess." So he'd put actual effort into it. "So you point the heart towards you if you're..like, taken. It's irish...lore or magic or whatever but I figured if gods are real. Why the hell not this?" he pointed out, waving to the ring. "You don't have to wear it like that but..you know...I thought the option would be nice."
Corey:
The reassurance put Corey right in the moment, grounded in time. Like Jackson’s love alone could make him float away if not for all that came with it. Again, it really was home. “Yeah.” He muttered back through a bashful smile before biting his lip. It was almost too much to bear Jackson’s gaze like this. Different from how he usually watched him, observed, but once the gift had been unwrapped that pensive moment in time had all been worthwhile. Corey could tell Jackson was taking a small breath of relief himself, proud to have earned such a response from Apollo’s son. “It is perfect.” Cor chuckled, righting himself once again on the cushion so Jackson could explain the... significance behind each gem. It made Corinth’s heart flutter. If anything, the artist was a sentimental type. He held the silver ring up carefully with both hands to tilt it how Jackson described before looking to his love again once the other hesitated. A sublte blush bloomed across Corey’s cheeks and he waited till Jack nervously finished before closing in to kiss him once again. “Put it on me?” He requested, offering his left hand to Jack without hesitation.
He felt the tingling sensation across his arm, and suddenly the weight of that timeless embrace faded into something far less substantial.
Corinth opened his eyes to face the pale light of his bedroom wall. Alone.
Through the sobering realization that it all had been only a dream... a wonderful dream, the son of Apollo pushed himself to abandon his bed and wander out onto his west facing patio. There, he processed the emotions of what had been. What should have been. What... would always be.
King’s ring would be enough to hold onto this moment, however hopeless. With Jackson, nothing was ever truly impossible. The tan, grey, band was placed on Corinth’s left ring finger. A private symbol of this. Only through death, would Corey ever let it go.
