This is perhaps the most useless meta i’ve ever done, but something about dva’s short was bothering me. specifically, the way the omnics worked in the short.
the fact that the omnics were seemingly on a schedule was the first weird thing. according to the short and previous lore, gwishin omnics would attack every few months, with the meka protecting the coast from them. this happened enough that the army felt comfortable enough to allow the majority of an elite first line of defense to take some time off. so if the government was so prepared for omnic attacks, how could they allow the mekas to be hurt by an omnic a week before the short (leading to the events of the short).
a necessary event to allow the plot to take place you say? probably! am i going to read much more into it bc i’m the worst? Absolutely!
my theory here is that the smaller gwishin omnics - the ones dva fought herself - come in waves before the “final boss” - the big gwishin mecha that exists in the lore and the one the meka squad fought the week before.
the smaller omnics come as scouts, early fodder to test how prepared the city is. sure they have fire power, but honestly, even if they did hit the city the worst they would do is a few buildings - not the massive collateral the omniums would want. so you send out a few scouts, check out the competition, and outfit your final boss - the gwishin mecha - to directly counter whatever your scouting reveals to you. it gives you the best chance of success.
(side note: that would also explain why the gwishin omnic was so difficult for the mekas to fight - it had adapted to them the same way it adapted to the drone-based mekas previously)
and i’m willing to bet that this is what the south korean government expected. this could even be what’s been happening since the omnic’s first appearance 20 years ago.
however, this puts the quick arrival of the gwishin scouts in the short in an even worse light. because if they beat the gwishin mecha bad enough to require it to retreat, like was done in the past, they probably expected at least a month of rest. enough time to fix the mekas, at least. but the scouts arrived back within a week of the gwishin mecha’s retreat. if my theory is right, there’s another couple waves until the mecha returns, and it’s unclear if the meka were ready to fight it. and even if they do repel its next attack, the omnics are coming far quicker now - it seems like the omnium has kicked up its rate of production.
if that omnium has, what does that mean for the other omniums? have they also increased production?
what does the increase in omnic attacks mean for south korea and the meka squad?
i have no real point to this meta than to point out that, if my theory holds, things are about to get very difficult for the meka squad, and it’s unclear if they are prepared for it.
