Keep in mind, even an insanely good election for the Dems would have gotten them at most 9 more seats. That’s all the red seats that were up for election…this was a badly skewed set of seats up for election, almost entirely Dem. So there was literally no way that voting could have gotten the Dems enough seats to overcome a veto, meaning there was literally no way this election was going to result in anything better than legislative gridlock.If the Dems are less foot-shooty than usual, they’ll actually move legislation out and send it to a Senate guaranteed to say no, then refuse to back down on “compromise” bills that don’t actually compromise. That way, any shutdowns will be the Senate’s fault.
I’m aware of that, and as such never expected Dems to take the Senate. What I said about gloating reactionaries and the disappointing efficacy of smear-campaigning still stands.
