makes a whole lot of sense to me if larissa and the other dvora younguns are being sent to their new houses at the age of eight as it is also of course the age they'd enter the academy, which is very likely a loomling's first time interfacing with the outside world, and thus the first time they'd thus need the protection of a non-sullied name.
