I feel that as a woman that I need to say this : this dude really creeps the the hell out of me, it’s one thing to be a incel who only sees women as sex objects but a whole other thing to claim to not be that way yet still clearly have a lesbian fetish and shame characters for large chests while being into designs where they’re flat as a board hmmmm 🤔 there’s so much else I can say here but that be a 10 page essay

I think a big thing with Dobson is that he tries so hard and goes to such extremes to be seen as the most progressive LGBT-supporting male feminist ever that it looks all the way around and makes him sound like the most negotiate stereotype version of that. Add in his massive ego and narcissism, and he does a really poor job of hiding how he really is versus what he thinks he’s portraying himself as.

And if it helps, this blog would probably be the perfect place for a 10 page essay on the way Dobson is. ;)

Do you still think about Chase and Omi’s relationship? Because I do and damn , I really wish more kids cartoons had the nerves to make complex hero / villain dynamics half as good as those instead of trying to redeem everything under the sun

I think that was one thing I was always proud of XS for. Chase, in almost any other cartoon of the time, would have been given a tragic back story and then been a hero in the end. But that didn’t happen. Chase was evil the whole time, willingly so, and no matter how much Omi WANTED Chase to be good, Chase wouldn’t be. 

I  think that teaches us an important lesson: You can’t care about someone so much that they become a good person.

I already made several posts regarding this , but can we take a moment to appreciate the bright side to this? For starters, the girls will be in their 20s meaning no sexualised teenagers or high school drama , and it’s concept is actually pretty tame with the “adults who resent their childhoods” thing, especially considering what the PPG fandom has done? *cough Bleedman cough* People have every right to not trust this but It could be way worse too

That’s not a bad take, I’ll agree with that! 

Honestly, I wish that the concept (if they HAVE to make them older) was that they’re adults who resent their adulthood, and hate that they aren’t kids anymore. What if the girls just got so tired of the increased scrutiny (and maybe increased creepiness) that they faced as they became teens that they just quit and left the public eye, sacrificing what they love to do in the process. Maybe it could be a critique on how society expects women to behave a certain way as they get older, or critiquing how people expect adult superheroines to act or dress or live, or how to recapture your childhood once you get older and get more jaded about things you used to love. I dunno, I just think those ideas would be more interesting and more on brand than the one they say they’re exploring.

I know we just started to interact but I hope you’re having a good day , I dropped SU after barn mates and only just kept up with spoilers so I didn’t really experience SU future like you would’ve, though I sorta know the feeling from a much older cartoon also hurting me as a autistic woman (I’d share details if you’re super curious but you know, word count limit) anyways your feelings and criticism are valid 🙌

First off, thank you and I hope your day went well too. 

Secondly, here’s the thing because I still like Steven Universe and Future. I still enjoyed seeing these characters which I why I never dropped it myself. But I didn’t enjoy it all the same way SU stans like Anal Beeds would because I wanted to respect this show and that would mean not agreeing with everything it did. I wasn’t tearing apart everything in it, but the writing was the one thing keeping me from saying this show is the greatest thing ever when there’s clearly better. 

Not to say I’m right about every critique I made towards Steven Universe. I got an old six part dissertation of this show that is pretty outdated in some areas. But to not be critical of it when I slowly figured out problems were had was to say I wasn’t honest with what I want in the media I genuinely want to say is good. 

That’s why I analyze media not because it’s fun but I want to have standards for myself. I don’t just want stuff that make me feel better about myself but push me to do better. I enjoy a fair share of shit every now and then, but I try recognize what does good and what doesn’t. In the least, I have Steven Universe to thank for giving me that critical eye.

If you wish to share details about how you feel with me then by all means, this ramble was just what I want more out of people and I hope you understand.
