As the new religious war rages on, it brings me back to a thought I and a lot of other atheists seem to have.
Why are religious people such assholes while they still believe their faith will get them to their higher place for being "good"?
Everyone knows them. People who see themselves as very religious who think they're doing right for their fairytale characters. They change their clothes to what they are being told to. They participate in all the events of their community. They will aim their thoughts as many times as needed at a dedicated place to their higher being to get their approval....Until they get to meet another human being that isn't exactly aligned to (their version of) their story. Then they become complete assholes to them. That's where the racism and the extremism comes in.
Though this may be true, this is where the difference between a regular atheist and an extremist atheist start. The extremist atheist is by all accounts no different than a religious extremist. They see themselves as superior for not falling for the stories of a fairytale and despises anyone that does.
At the same time, a good atheist isn't so different from a real good religious person. They want people to unite under a unfied banner. To seek a unifying goal for everyone to strife for for themselves and as a populace. That we could never truly have peace unless we find a way to work together despite our differences.
Anyone to go against these concepts betray those who do seek real peace. They camouflage their narcissism and greed with the make-up of "faith" and "values" while ruining someone's day/destroying the lives of millions.
A truly loving higher being won't judge you for how much or little you want to live to rituals. They want you to be an example for others as an evoyee of the kindness and peace they want to spread in the world.
