gambled on secondhand bjd roulette again and didn't fare too well

this To.M was sold as a Mano, he's been dyed and has an undisclosed chunk out of his nose tip

might just save this post as a draft and update it after cleaning. see if I can restore him at all.

non acetone nail polish remover strips the dye immediately.

it is the exact same brand I've used half a dozen times with zero issues, but this time there is white hazing (similar to my tan Half Elf after I had to use acetone to take off a faceup, but way worse on poor To.M)

and then I boiled him just to see if it might help the gouge on his nose. but no luck at all. it appears to be an actual slice into his nose and not just a dent that would pop out. :((((

did some gentle sanding on the gouge. such a terrible prominent place to have to sand tan resin :((( I'm fairly upset over it but still optimistic for the restoration

I got Novus plastic polish to try next 🤞

to be clear, only his nose tip is sanded -- all the other white areas happened when I stripped the dye.

I had such huge hopes for the Novus 1 & 2 but it has not cleared up the white hazing sufficiently for me. It did really help the sanded area! But not the hazing from stripping.

I'm really not sure what to try next. Mineral oil I suppose? I have to stop here for now because of busy rl. But I am grumpy about it.

big doll progress today! i only got this hybrid doll in the mail a couple of days ago and i decided that this was the day to dive in on her entire big giant project. bc i slept for like 1.5 hrs last night, so OBVIOUSLY this afternoon was the perfect time to dye an entire doll 🙄

i thought it sounded like a dumb idea even as i was setting up the dye pot and stringing up all the pieces for dipping, tbh. like how was this not gonna come out like butt when i was this sleep deprived. AND YET

she is so red! and more or less completely even! i feel so successful! 😍😍😍

also finally got this girl's wig cap like...65% done. needs a couple more layers of tulle especially around the back hairline, and then some adjustment for fit-- but still, way closer to finishing her than i was yesterday

feeling really bummed out about Den of Angels, actually. i literally learned how to BJD from that forum-- got to hang out in a waiting room thread while waiting for my first doll, learned about hybrids and modding and wigmaking and pretty much everything i do with my dolls-- and over the years so many of my dolls have been secondhand from the DoA marketplace that i counted it up last night and fully 2/3 of my entire bjd collection wouldn't be with me in their current forms without that forum. including both of the dolls in this post. i'm so tired of everything dying off or being swallowed up by a social media megacorp and becoming enshittified past recognition. there is so much accumulated knowledge and hobby history on that forum and it's sad as fuck to see it shut down. i wanted to post a project thread on DoA for Red Girl here, but it's so doubtful i'll complete her before the site closes.

i plan to try and replicate my doll profiles from Den of Angels here on my tumblr in some form, and finally get around to making a pinned post with links to all of them...but tbh no social media site can replace a forum for knowledge sharing and collaboration in a creative hobby. it just sucks 😕
