Think.
(Fantastic Four Volume 3 #515)
“In the end, it was simple: Zuko was hers. Not because of blood or duty, but because no one else could burn as brightly, break as beautifully, or make her feel this gloriously ruined. And she would never let him go.”
Throne of Shadows, soon on ao3x…
This has to be the most humiliating thing that ever happened to him. Even losing to Raphael and being branded forever as “dysfunctional” hasn’t been as bad, and Mephistopheles knew that this was Lucius’s worst memory! But being captured and tadpoles by illithid… The cambion winced. He always thought himself the weakest of all fiends, he now had the proof of it!
And as things couldn’t get any worse, the tadpole squirming in his skull seemed to be affecting him. Each of the spells he had cast so far was significantly weaker. As if having poor control on his hellish magic wasn’t bad enough, now he was as weak as a mortal! He clasped his wings tights around his body, as if to protect himself against a world that suddenly seemed so much more dangerous. As soon as he had found out about his impairment, he casted a simple spell on them to render them invisible, that way, if any mortals were to cross his path, they would think him to be a tiefling and be more willing to help him in his predicament.
Disgusting mindflayers! To implant a cambion!
Among everything, mindflayers were the very thing Lucius hated the most, more, even, than he hated Raphael. And this event was not to gain them any favor.
He needed to find mortals that had been tadpoles too, convince them they could help each other, so he could use them as cannon fodder. Or even better yet, offer to trade their soul to another devil who could help him. This shouldn’t be too hard to recognize; look for people looking desperate as they knew their days were running very short. Then, all he would have to do would be to smooth talk them, and it was what he was the best at!
With a wave of the tail, he set to find someone with a confidence in his step he was lacking in his mind.

People who grow up in functional families don’t realize it’s like winning the lottery. They lack empathy and love to gaslight you.
“How could you?”, like yes I emphasize with that girl in the news who killed their abusive f*ther off. I can get why one would be pushed to that point.
