“BIRTH OF THE PHOENIX”
by Dytch66
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Robert Gomez, aka Dytch66, was a pioneer of 3D graffiti lettering and is one of the leading artists to emerge from the graffiti culture of the '80s. Dytch says graffiti "was the voice of the people; one in which you could see expressions of all art forms" and it allowed him to share the influences of his Native American and Spanish heritage with the city. Driven to pursue other mediums and define his own visual vocabulary he says his work as a muralist now focuses on the "intersection between photo-realism, color theory, spatial analysis and abstract art." That same drive to explore and pioneer led Dytch to found outdoor media firm Blank Canvas LA, blurring the line between art and advertising. This 2014 wall for the back of the Blick art store at Beverly Blvd. and Poinsetta Pl. showcases Dytch's diverse mix of skills. @dytch66 @blickonbeverly @blankcanvasla
