E06 - The Case of the Creeping Forest
I'm watching Love Your Enemy and ex-bff Cha Ji Hye is such a classic kdrama stereotype!! But yeah, still works on me. I do hate her while finding her a bit pitiful.
It's one thing to lie and be fake as a teen, it's another to persist in your lie as an adult. I have to wonder how much she could've possibly matured to still think of Seok Ji Won as the one for her. When he's only ever rejected her. And obviously loves Yun Ji Won.
Though to be fair, most of the characters have a very childish streak. The leads fight like children. Still make ridiculous bets.
But back to Ji Hye for a moment. How come she doesn't seem to be burdened by her past actions? It's pitiful the way she clings to a man who doesn't like her. It's even worse to think that she's always loved a version of him that loved Yun Ji Won. Like the flashback where he's looking out the window at her & smiling? Ji Hye loves the way he acts when he's in love... with someone else. A bit tragic really.
WAIT. She just stole Ji Won's phone!!! Who needs enemies when you have a friend like that, right?
But also. I wish the leads would have a real conversation about their teenage separation & finally figure everything out. This drama's one misunderstanding after the next!! And both of them are too proud & aware of their past hurt to be honest about their feelings. I think it's frustrating cuz the audience knows a lot more than them. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I'd learned what Ji Hye has done through one of the leads?
That being said, it's still an enjoyable, lighthearted watching experience. Though sometimes you do wanna scream at the characters like WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!
