Mindlapse Interview With Vocalist and @ragebreed CEO Karina Sher
Angel:Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your style?
Karina:Right now for the new single for Rage Of Masses, my influences are Opeth, Death, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Bloodbath, Amon Amarth, Saor.
Angel:What’s something you listen to that might surprise people, given the music you make?
Karina:I listen to all kinds of music, if it reasonates with me, all good. Music is about mood, feeling, and fantasy. Metal plays on one time of mood but there are many moods in life so as an artist you have to be open to not limiting yourself because then the song is forced to fit a niche than to explore. It is why I also have Lake Of Dreams which is the opposite of the progressive blackened death metal I write.
Angel:What’s a non-musical skill, hobby, or obsession that has secretly shaped your music?
Karina:Fantasy films like Lord Of The Rings, Conan The Barbarian. Red Sonya, Legend, Labyrinth, Willow as example include Tolkien books. Tarot readings, runes, spirituality, afterlife, the occult plays a big part. Also philosophy such as anti-prejudices plays a big part in the music I write. Everything I write is concept based so each song represents a spirit in the afterlife telling their story. So clairvoyance plays a big part.
Angel:What’s the most rewarding part about doing it all on your own?
Karina:Well I write everything but John Mitchell plays and adds/produces to the skeleton to the song. So he plays the bass, guitars, keys, drums, solos, where as I write the guitar riffs and vocals, lyrics so although I write the song, he adds the layers to record, produce and create it into the masterpiece.
Angel:What’s a tool or piece of gear you couldn’t live without in your setup?
Karina:Shure microphone. My guitars are Dean and Schecter but John uses his guitars in the recording.
Angel:What are your favorite venue(s) to play?
Karina:Camden Koko in London and Rock City in Nottingham.
Angel:What platforms can fans follow you on?Karina:Facebook and Instagram www.mindlapse.net
Angel:How would you describe Mindlapse as coffee?
Karina:Mindlapse Mocha bit of dark roasted coffee symbolised by progressive death metal with sweet tasted chocolate and frothy milk symbolising the sweetness of melody on top.
