The cool thing about Earshot right now was how chill shifts tended to be. With the cold and the snow, people just didn't shop as much, and so, while the shop saved money by closing a little earlier, it was pretty much a musical playground with only intermittent customers.

Ren's sure, sipping their coffee, that this drought in business will eventually be a problem, but right now, it's allowing for a nice bit of catchup. Lis is on the counter while he sorts the shelves, and Aria is in tow.

It's wild, he thinks, that they've both wound up here - a shame that the whole Art collective thing had kind of gone to shit in that hurricane, but Ren wasn't about to tuck tail and head back to NYC to work for his dad. Ren was finding himself out here. And to stumble on Aria one day when she'd come into the shop, well...

this catch-up was long overdue.

"So, the photography's going, you're running a bookstore, and you're getting married?"

Ren finishes sorting a row of vinyls, and turns to her with a churlish smile. "Feel like you sold out a bit," It's a stupid joke, but Ren's full of them - that's nothing new.

Osamu Kitajima - Breath of Night

Yutaka's version of this song is more famous, but I really like this one bc of the more "muted" feel, and the intro sets the stage for the whole rest of the song .

Cypress Hill - Spark Another Owl

i came across this song in a funny place - it was the BGM for a few seconds of a clip of excited fans enetering the stadium during the pre-show of MJ's HIStory tour show in Tunisia. Even from those few seconds, it's hard to miss their unique sound. It's so funny that he was playing it there. I love those small glimpses of what it wouldve been like to wait for the opening show to begin back then, as well as Michael's own deep love for hip hop. Anyway, moving on..

Flaw - Whole

After the week before's Ra and Crossfade rabbithole, I re-immersed myself in this band this past week. Heavy themes and heavy guitars make for great music.

Earshot - Wait

This was another regular during my continuing 2000s rock rabbithole. A true Yearning anthem!

The Jacksons - Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) - SEGA Genesis cover by TheLegendofRenegade

AAAHHHHH!!!! It can't be overstated how many times I've bee repeating this one! This channel has been uploading insane Sega covers made from scratch of so many music hits from across the 70s-00s, and does a great job of both the cover themselves and matching them to the vibes of a relevant game. This time it's Mystic Cave from Sonic 2, not just because Sonic and the Jackson family are linked but also bc it's in the same pitch as the 2-player Mystic Cave theme. I also love that they do one version with instruments resembling the main vocals, and then afterwards another with just the background instruments and melody. An "instrumental" of an instrumental! I'd strongly recommend this channel to anyone who loves VGM covers of non-VG music, there's so many hidden gems.
