The Shimon Family and Earth Flames just... fascinates me. I feel they deserve better writing, and would personally love to explore them.

I’ve got a lot of opinions here.

What is the history of the Earth Flames??? Does it only circles within the Simon family???

In the manga, only the Simon Family has been shown to have Earth Flames at all, past and present.

Which kinda tracks as Flames do have a genetic component but like, it could be other people do have them, they just don't get noticed as Earth Flames per se ie Bianchi's Poison Cooking could be random power but also could be Swamp Flames or Fuuta's Ranking Power could be random power but also could be Fuuta reading the earth's magnetic fields with Earth Flames and getting data that way. Since to really use Flames to the Best Effect, you need a Ring and Rings need to be Attuned to the Flame. Going by the panel where Adel goes and does a murder to that one (I think) Russian guy, where the dude is like, "I've never seen those Flames before!" Which with the guy having snagged an invite to the Vongola Inheritance Ceremony means they're influential and/or have deep roots/experience, so he should have extensive experience in the Underworld.

I like to think that Zakuro is technically an Earth Flame guy as well, but he's canonically Byakuran's Storm. Storm Flames do not explain his lava bath and erupting the volcano on his village though.

Rereading the Simon Arc, I think the Earth Flame’s abilities probably work something like this

Earth: Gravitation, obviously, creates a gravitational field with the Flame as the center, allowing it to attract, crush, or hold targets, possibly even nullifying competing gravitational pulls

Forest: Realization, wherein the Flame literally becomes plant matter, rather than just shaping itself to resemble something the way that Mist Flames do. It doesn’t seem to control existing plants, and the realized plants don’t seem to have much staying power, since the vines and leaves seem to disappear once Koyo is taken away. It may also carry the secondary characteristic of sharpness, either increasing how sharp leaves or thorns are or giving sharpness to what the Flames coat

Mountain: Tuning, coats objects (only stated to be minerals, but possibly other things) and makes them act as if they are a part of the Flame itself. This allows the user to move the target, condense it, and even flare it up as if it were a part of the Flame itself (shown as creating a small mountain). I understand it best as the Flame literally carrying whatever it coats

Swamp: Fermentation, given the name, probably either excites microbes within the target or acts in place of microbes to break down an inorganic target to decay. It was only ever shown to have a liquefying effect, but it’s possible that it could also be used to reduce something to a gas. The mud it’s shown to make doesn’t seem to be harmful, but it’s possible that depending on what it’s used on or its concentration it could be used to create an acid that can damage organic targets as well

Desert: Hallucination, as I’ve said before, seems to only produce images, but it was used by an illusionist, Daemon Spade, so it’s hard to say exactly how it works given that he could have been layering the Desert Flame with illusions the way that Mist Flame users do with their constructions. It could also be a distortion of what’s already there, such as Daemon slipping away from Kaoru’s attack, but I’m not sure if that’s a good way to explain that. He also created several copies of himself that could split damage between themselves, so it’s possible that the Desert Flame had something to do with that, but I think that was something more to do with Daemon’s personal magic-like abilities. I think that Hallucination is more like a projection that is in the physical world rather than in the mind the way an illusion is, but lacks the physical density of a Mist Flame. Either way, I think it’s “element” so to speak is either air or light, since those are the most likely ways that the Flame causes distortions

Glacier: Freezing, fairly self-explanatory, freezes things. It is a cold Flame that takes heat away from a target, making it ice over. Similar to the Mountain Flame or even the Mist Flame, the resulting ice can be shaped and controlled, but I don’t think that it grants control of ambient ice, only ice created by the Flame itself like the plants of the Forest Flame. I think this is different from Zero Point Breakthrough in that the latter is explicitly used to invert the energy of Dying Will Flames, whereas Glacier Flames can freeze anything. Rain Flames, with their ability to remove energy from a system, can also be used to freeze things, but as far as I recall that was only used for Rain Flame projectiles and only by Ugetsu Asari in the anime, so it’s probably a highly specialized technique

River/Ocean/Lake(?): Kaoru’s Flame is unnamed and its ability unidentified, but given its bubbly appearance and his last name being Mizuno (water), I think it’s fair to say that it’s water-based. What it can do can only be speculated on, since we only see it once, so I’m going to throw out some ideas. Since Yamamoto seems to literally burst with blood from one attack, the bubbles from the Flame may have some kind of Expansion characteristic, causing explosive decompression or something to that effect. It may also focus on Fluidity, allowing it to flow through a target uninterrupted or take control of things that are fluid, like a liquid equivalent of the Mountain Flame’s control of solids. Since each of other Flames seems to either create or control an element (Forest, Glacier and Swamp seem to create plants, ice and acids while Earth, Mountain and Desert seem to control gravity, stone and air/light), it seems likely that the River Flame does one of the two with water. I think it’s more likely to control so as to have as little overlap with Swamp’s acids creating liquids as possible, but it’s probably a bit more complex than that since they all seem to have some combination of creation and control

Either way, with the exception of Kaoru’s Flame, I feel like I finally have a satisfactory understanding of the Earth Flames. I still feel as though that was Akira Amano’s job, but she’s clearly never going to do it, so I guess someone had to

…There was a reason why the Simon kept hidden, and it certainly wasn’t only Daemon. Those possessing Earth Flames are hunted, often slaughtered by the Vindice before they can even take their first breath.

There can only be one.

Too bad Sawada Tsunayoshi was sealed at five years old and never showed any signs of flames.

When the seal breaks, pandemonium breaks loose. What is this, the world whispers. What is this, and what does it do?

Because it breathes life, it breathes warmth, it breathes cold, rock hard like the frozen ground in winter. Sawada Tsunayoshi possesses Earth Flames, and his gravity is pulling the whole world in.

Alarm bells sound within the Vindice headquarters, but it is too late- Sawada has gathered people who care about him. People who need him more than anything. People who want him to stay alive, and somehow, with his every breath, he pulls even his enemies into him.

Buries them into his heart.

Sawada Tsunayoshi possesses Earth Flames and his pull is too great for the Vindice to resist.

They yield.

So hunt the Simon it was.

God fucking damn Giotto di Vongola, for the Vindice cannot murder the Simon as long as they are bound to the contract to persevere the friendship between the Vongola and the Simon. Which would be ended if Sawada Tsunayoshi and Kozato Enma met, but.

This is the very thing that must not ever happen if the Vindice wish to survive. Bermuda fears the day they will meet. There will be no scraps left for the rats after that.

Tsuna pulls and pulls and pulls- swallows his enemies hearts whole, loves them until they love him in return, earth fire burning upon him.

He is ravenous, brown eyes gone black, black, black as a hole in space.

He meets  Enma Kozato on a Thursday night in the back of a theatre he decided to pay a visit, and from across the room, their eyes meet.

Never has he been more hungry.

This man is like him.

From across the room, black eyes meet black eyes, and they stride towards each other with purpose. The room freezes, watching with wide, wide eyes, trembling limbs in place.

What happens when a black hole eats a black hole?

Earth Flame thoughts

You know, for all that I’ve mentioned my love for our favorite Simon heir, I don’t think I’ve ever actually thought about how Earth Flames work and function.

About time I fixed that I think :D

So, to put it out there, It’s know that Sky Flames are Harmony, a flames one can find peace within one’s self, and with the rest of their elements.

Now, In contrast, Earth Flames are about Gravity..... and pretty much it? If judging by canon.

I have decided otherwise!   ♪~ ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ thank you artistic license~

Earth Flames are about Gravitation, Flames one can find a balance in, as well as with their fellow comrades.

Now, you might say; “but WF! what is the difference! Aren’t balance and peace the same thing?”

 hahahahahahahahaha- no.  ʘ‿ʘ

Just look at their definitions my good imaginary complainer.

Peace| Noun- 1.freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility.   2.freedom from or the cessation of war or violence. Exclamation- 1.used as a greeting. 2.used as an order to remain silent.  

Balance| Noun- 1.an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. 2.a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions. Verb- 1.keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall.  2.offset or compare the value of (one thing) with another.        

Geez, aint that a difference? ◉ ‿ ◉      

Now, I’ve had it thought out in my head that Sky Flames, well, they deal more mentally and spiritually, with Earth Flames being more physical and spiritually. (with Ocean Flames being all three*Shot*) Sky Flames, if you’ve noticed, seem to require more mental strength to use, as shown with Tsuna in that he can literally come back to life with simple regrets. Sure, the bullets and his bloodline play a factor, but I very much doubt they would work like that with regular civilians, and I doubt very much this would work with Iemitsu; Tsuna is made of sterner stuff. (Not to mention the the Civilian Puppet Theory comes more plausible with just the way Reborn has been training Tsuna in this case. *Shot*)

Anyways~   (~˘▾˘)~

Earth Flames in contrast require more physical discipline to use; Their body has to to be able to handle the sheer emotions of their soul. Because Sky Flames, they can think okay, Hyper Dying Will mode showing us that easy in that Logic can over ride emotions in that state. 

Earth Flames do not have that safety net, when they get emotional, they will be pretty fucking emotional. (One of the reasons for Enma’s downward spiral.)

So anyways, combine my thought on balance and the Physical/Spiritual aspects about Earth Flames, and you get what I think on Gravitation. They provide an emotional balance to their elements, while getting the same in return, along with a slight physical boost depending on how their flames go.

And I am going to leave it here for now, as I am obviously too tired to function if judging by my text faces that I’m using now.  (；一_一)

Fellow Reborn fans

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what the last Dying Will Flame of the Earth could be? As well as any properties?

All we know is that it has a bubbly effect and can cause lacerations.

Let me know what you think, because to be honest, this stumps me.

Okay, I want to make a general post about Earth Flames, but I need help with somethings.

What do you guys think the description/roles of the Earth Flame users are?

What colors do you think the ring stones should be?

How do you think Earth rings are passed on? Do the rings change your Flames, or do you have to have Earth Flames from the start? Should the rings give out trials?
