listen to me, this is so so important: you've gotta get used to really giving it your 60% as a default. like don't half-ass it necessarily but try not to go over 70% or so of an ass. you'll feel better and live a happier more fulfilled life, and on the rare occasions where you do need to lock the fuck in you'll be able to pull off bullshit that the sad miserable wretches giving it their 100% can never dream of, because they're busy draining themselves dry and you have energy reserves to spare.
Toki Reads Shonen Jump 2026, Issue #27: How Losers Think Week
Alternate Titles: I Don't Get It Week; Now I Get It Week; Toxic Yaoi Week; What They Say About Assumptions Week
20. Me & Roboco ch.283 (-3, Unappreciated): Roboco puts together a mini fashion zine detailing a week of her daily outfit choices
...O...kay? It wasn't...UNfunny, but it really didn't do anything for me either. The HxH bit at the end was also...just kinda off-putting? Like I get the joke conceptually, that it was super incongruous with the rest of the chapter being about clothes, but...it was super incongruous with the rest of the chapter! It just didn't work for me
19. Nue's Exorcist ch.147 (-1, Unappreciated): Nue helps Gakuro train, but when she has a vision of the team's failure, she formulates a new approach
Not really much going on with this chapter. I kind of like that we're getting a glimpse into Nue's fears and attachments, but the choreography of the training wasn't particularly readable to me, so whatever tension it was trying to build was lost on me
18. Kinato's Magic ch.17 (-6, Unappreciated): Jien tries to take advantage of Terasu's naivete to escape, but finds her crush on Kinato too pure to commit to manipulating. Terasu inadvertently gives Kinato some advice that helps him realize he can artificially control his physical boost technique by using his seitai magic on himself
...Wasn't that...*exactly* the problem? That he was *literally* incapable of using seitai on himself? And for that matter, how is "using seitai on himself" fundamentally *different* from using his mana to boost his physical abilities? I really don't understand this one, but I'm willing to concede that I probably just haven't been paying attention
I also...don't much care for Jien this chapter. He was much too creepy, even if it was just meant to be a passing gag. I like Terasu a lot, honestly, I think she's super cute, and having that contrasted with Jien talking about making her "mine, all mine" was just uncomfty
17. Sakamoto Days ch.261 (+2, Appreciated): Faced with Tanabata's ability to inflict damage by recreating the sound the real thing would make, Shin wonders what Sakamoto would do...only to realize that he needs to focus on what he himself can do, and starts targeting Tanabata's guitar strings
I really like the sentiment of Shin trying to be his own fighter rather than just emulating Sakamoto, but in execution, I don't see how what he did was necessarily different from "WWSD" beyond using his futuresight instead of pure reflex or intuition. I have a similar problem with Tanabata's "perfect pitch," since we only see him use it to do one slashing attack and then generic explosions - the core concept is cool, but it's not executed upon in a very interesting way
Also kind of a shame that the art quality got so rough, hope Suzuki's doing okay
16. Witch Watch ch.249 (-3, Appreciated): Kiriko's spell creates a tag-team game of Highest Number Wins, and the Warlock team is immediately in sync while Miharu and Ban rapidly drift apart
It took me a bit to understand the rules of the game, but once it got going I got invested in it easily enough. It's rough seeing Miharu getting so down on Ban, but honestly...I probably would too, I am not a patient enough person to not blame a partner who clearly isn't thinking things through
It's not incredibly hard to see where this is going, though - A) it'll turn out that Maverick's Synchronization Magic is what's letting them play their cards perfectly like this, and B) it will somehow end up being a good thing that Ban threw away her 7 so early, even if I can't really predict how
15. Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz ch.6 (-4, Appreciated): As Gimsun wakes up and resumes his attack, Surume uses her sigil to incapacitate him. Valaris explains that exposure to the Ghastree's miasma is mutating the students into demons, giving them all powers, which will certainly get the attention of the Seven Dragons, the heroes who slayed the previous Demon King
Oh, so it's not that Akira always had powers that just didn't manifest properly until now, it's that the power he manifested from the circumstances was appropriate to his biology and personality. That's not disinteresting or anything, this chapter just felt a little bit slapdash with its explanations and randomly introducing one more character without even properly establishing his name or anything. The fact that all of the students are becoming demons makes their forthcoming allegiance to Valaris a little easier to see, but I also don't know if I love how blunt that is
The comedy in this chapter wasn't half bad, though, and I do like that Surume's philosophy is to side with anyone wearing a school uniform over a stranger claiming to be a Hero
14. Under Doctor ch.18 (-9, Appreciated): While Haiji visits Wynn, his childhood friend afflicted with Cold Sleep Syndrome, Haiji is himself visited by Kusumi, an information broker that's uncovered a lead on the Snake Whisperers, the cult that put Wynn in this state. The two travel to Cameroon to raid a Snake Whisperer facility, but Haiji has to hide his fighting style so as not to give away his identity
I like the ideas in this chapter, but the pacing is pretty shoddy. I'm not sure how well this series is doing, but having Wynn, Kusumi AND the Snake Whisperers all introduced and exposited upon simultaneously doesn't exactly comfort me. I think maybe having this chapter just focusing on Haiji's dynamics with Wynn and Kusumi would have helped me make a better connection with it, then it could have ended with Kusumi mentioning the Snake Whisperers to build tension for next week. Hopefully the actual arc delves more into the emotional stakes
13. Kagurabachi ch.123 (-7, Appreciated): Unwilling to risk what little Datenseki they have on the Enchanted Blades Plan, the Sorcery Bureau agrees to give Chiaki to Shokoku to buy time for Hiyuki to be born and weaponize Flame Bone, a plan that Chiaki reluctantly agrees to in order to protect Kunishige
I'm sorry, WHAT??? A short-term plan proposed by an expert that YOU BROUGHT IN is too risky because he's vouching for "some guy," but a long-term plan that hinges on an unborn BABY is somehow perfectly viable??? That's so absurd that it completely shatters my suspension of disbelief!
Of course, I understand that there's also a political aspect going on here - the Sorcery Bureau somehow stands to benefit from the Soga princess that came from a branch family being taken out of the way, but I'm already not super interested in political intrigue, nor does that do anything to justify to me that they're placing their bets on a FETUS!!!
Chiaki's emotional turmoil is naturally the real crux of this chapter though - the life she lived and lost as Chiaki the girl was far more valuable to her than her current life as Chiaki the princess, and now the only value she sees in this version of her is as a sacrifice for the good of others. While I may not be particularly invested in everything else here, Chiaki's struggle put in a lot of work to reel me back in
12. Hima-Ten! ch.92 (-4, Appreciated?): With the photography and interviews wrapped up, Tenichi heads home and Himari is satisfied she did everything she could to make their time meaningful. Tsubone challenges Himari's satisfaction and suggests she should make her feelings clear to Tenichi while she can instead of wallowing in regret later, so Himari gives chase...only to find that Tenichi is still at her door!
"If I ruin Honoka's happiness, I'd have no right to develop makeup anymore!" OH, COOOME OOOON!!! You can have your cake and eat it too!!! This is simple math here, people!!!
I'm glad we're getting this introspection, but Tsubone is right, Himari IS being confusing! Are you trying your best to win him over LIKE YOU PROMISED HONOKA, or are you trying to best to get over him???
This goes for Ono, too, by the way! Cus you cannot POSSIBLY have Tenichi reciprocate Himari's feelings BEFORE he confesses to Honoka, that would basically take all of the wind out of that particular sail AND retroactively ruin the entire scene with Kanna! So what are we even doing here?? Is he going to realize he likes her back, TELL HER THAT, and then just...LEAVE?! Or is he going to be cagey about it and string her along??? If this is anything other than him realizing that polyamory is an option, I'm going to be rip-roaring PISSED!!!
11. Shinobi Undercover ch.83 (-1, Appreciated): Yodaka wakes up in the hospital to find a blob of Yoichi's mud has imprinted on him, though the rest of the squad wants to get rid of it. Squad 2's Inuwashi arrives to inform Yodaka he's being summoned to a tribunal of the Eight Families to decide what will happen to the Uzen...and to Squad 9!
Another political meeting, huh...I don't want to jump to conclusions about how dry it will be since this series' sense of humor is one of its major selling points, but I'm not exactly looking forward to whatever it will be...I'm way more interested in continuing to analyze how Yodaka has grown out of his own self-absorbed anxiety and how Yoichi and his blob tie into that. Maybe that will still end up being the focus?
10. Roku's House of Oddities ch.8 (-9, Liked): With their rivaling views on which of them counts as Roku's guardian, Johan and Kabaneji both attend the Parent-Teacher Conference. When the lunch ladies get sick, the two use their respective skills to ensure the children don't go hungry for the day
Are...we just going to gloss over the fact that Johan has the ability to manipulate peoples' blood to give them power-ups, or...?
I'm glad that we're getting into the dynamics between the Curses themselves now! Having an ensemble cast like this gives a lot of opportunities for different dynamics to emerge, so it's nice that we're seeing some of that this early, and the dichotomy of "the king and the soldier" is a catchy little mnemonic that sums it up quite well! Looking forward to seeing what other dynamics emerge!
9. Alien Headbutt ch.16 (+6, Liked, END): Volgano consumes the "child" that the aliens were cultivating for a power up, but Ouga defeats him with a Seismic Toss. A year later, Ouga is fighting off alien invasions across the globe
U17??? That's cruel!!! This series deserved to at least make it to the half-year mark!!! Harumph...!
While the final round wasn't as creative as it maybe could have been, the visual of their meteoric impact was quite well done, and the characterization was pretty great - I just know that if this series had gotten to go on longer, Ouga and Volgano would have had phenomenal homoerotic tension that would have made that final indirect kiss with the cigarette absolutely *devastating*
All in all, not the worst send-off I've ever seen for an axed series, nor was it the most exciting either, but damn if that wasn't gay enough to at least be memorable!
8. One Piece ch.1184 (=, Liked): When Brook was a vagrant child, he would make instruments from trash. One day, he caught Leuven's attention and befriended him, not realizing he was the prince of Esperia. When Brook was mistaken for a drug mule by corrupt Marines and nearly killed, Leuven swooped in to save him, making him his ward so he could get a proper education
Damn, so Brook's entire life is just constantly getting bookended with bouts of isolation and loss, huh? Even worse, we know something's going to happen to Leuven, so it's probably not even just the three times we already know, there's going to be a stint between Leuven's death and meeting Yorki...oh, right, we're going to see how Brook met Yorki soon! That's pretty exciting!
I really like Leuven, honestly, I was worried about what kind of guy he'd be from his brief appearance last week, but seeing him take a shine to an indigent because Brook's music was openly critical of the royal family makes him pretty endearing
7. Akane-banashi ch.208 (-2, Liked): As Kaisei approaches the stage, he notices that the crowd has already had their fill of God of Death and aren't paying him any mind...a challenge he doesn't find daunting in the slightest
Ahh, I see now, Kaisei going second is meant to be a parallel to his own promotion exam - just as Issho was able to perform God of Death after Kaisei and show him up, the challenge now is for him to do the same to Akane. This is further highlighted by the comment that Akane's performance was good enough for a Shinuchi promotion, meaning that Akane is all but literally in Kaisei's previous position, so now the goal is to prove that Kaisei has exceeded the "paltry" performance he gave before
Well damn, now I'm getting kinda worried...narratively it would be cruel to have Kaisei lose here, cus it would mean he's still not at the level he needs to be, but after Akane's performance it would be strange not to have her win...I wonder if this is going to end up in a tie?
6. Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi ch.94 (-4, Loved): After the battle, Shishido heals Bobo and reveals that he was the exorcist that Mama died trying to heal. Bobo reforms and uses a Menderfly, a one-time use resurrection item, to revive Bub, and the Roth Territory citizens throw a party to celebrate the Demon Realm Protectorz
A sweet chapter, plain and simple. Shishido's backstory is more or less what I expected, and I figured Bub would survive somehow, but even if it was all predictable, this chapter just gave me the good feelin's, so it's a win in my book...so what the hell's gonna happen next?
For some reason I'm getting the vibe that that block-headed smiling weirdo, Tenno, is gonna come busting in and ruin everything somehow. Him or Utsugi
5. Blue Box ch.244 (+9, Loved): While everyone else focuses on how far their efforts can or can't take them, Taiki focuses on the people who have supported him up until now, and how all of them inspire him by constantly trying to broaden their horizons
Theeere it is! That was the message last week was trying to build to - when Effort isn't enough, Friendship is the extra push you need to reach Victory. Fairly standard stuff, but executed quite well!
Taiki's ability to immediately accept that Chinatsu wants to study abroad shows a deep respect and reciprocation for all of the support she's given him, and I admire that he didn't even need to think about it, he just recognized what she wanted and encouraged it wholeheartedly. He's a good kid, and the image of Chinatsu leaving behind a collapsed box furthers the metaphor of the Blue Box title in a fantastic and beautiful way
4. Drawn to the Fire ch.7 (+3, Loved): As Yamashiro shuts down Keiki's pass to Ujo, Keiki recalls a time when Hanabi blocked him and explained how she can stay a step ahead of him all the time because she trusts him to do the same to her. Remembering her words, Keiki passes to Akane without even looking, trusting that he'll receive it and win the game
That's some solid theming right there! "I trust that you'll lie to me" is such a good little paradox! I can't remember what series it was, but I recall a battle where one guy was able to beat the other because he trusted his opponent would use a specific move over another - that probably comes up a lot, and that's probably why I can't think of the specific example, but I'm glad it's getting applications in other types of stories too!
3. Ruri Dragon ch.46 (+11, Loved): As they approach the last leg of the trail, Ruri's mom apologizes that she couldn't provide her with a normal life, but Ruri rejects the apology, as it implies her birth was a mistake. Making the final stretch alone, Ruri finally meets a dragon for the first time!
That's a pretty solid message, actually - don't judge yourself for taking actions that made you happy just because you assume they made someone else unhappy. If you did hurt someone, sure, own up to it, but it's more important to understand the perspectives of the people in your life than to make assumptions about them or tell them how they should feel. Being overly compassionate to others can not only put words in their mouth, but it can also just have a needless backlash effect on yourself as well when you're just as deserving of that same compassion
Also that dragon design is sick as hell
2. Ichi the Witch ch.84 (+2, Loved): As Moneygold requests the right to ask Amadoro what happened before she's arrested by the Magikeepers, Fujimine arrives on the scene...to a warm welcome from everyone! Everyone *except* Chun, who Fujimine realizes must be a previous victim of her mind control given his resistance, so she points everyone else in his direction
Ohhh, it's not that Chun's *currently* being controlled, it's that he *was* being controlled at some point! Which means that everything he's said about her needing to die and trying to strongarm Mantinel was all 100% genuine, though perhaps now motivated by an obsession with Fujimine specifically rather than overzealous commitment to the cause. As it stands, I don't find Chun a particularly interesting character, so I think this will be a good opportunity to flesh out both him and the greater societal ramifications of the Magikeepers as an organization
Fujimine, on the other hand, is pretty immediately interesting to me with her landmine-girl persona and ability to force people to love her. It's a pretty classic memory-manipulation ability, though the added wrinkle of it losing potency implies that it's more of a poison-based ability. It doesn't seem related to the Toxiterror Magik, so it may well be that Fujimine collects poison Magiks
Regardless, if Chun is specifically targetting Fujimine, then there's a good chance that this will be used to expand on the themes of hunting. Minakata joined the Magikeepers because his predecessor's hunt for Fujimine was left unfinished, but that seems to apply to Chun just as well if not more so. Where Minakata was inspired to join the hunt because of Ichi and seems otherwise fairly lax about it, this appears to be everything to Chun, and that will probably be the crux of his character going forward
1. Someone Hertz ch.35 (+2, Loved): As the Rookie Round begins, Mimei reflects on how he came to love Mon-Mid in the first place. When he was applying to high school, Mimei believed everyone expected him to get into an elite school he didn't want to go to, making him feel anxious and isolated; to relax, he tried listening to the radio, and heard a Mon-Mid submission from someone his own age - Eel Potato
I relate to Mimei so hard that I think he might be my actual son ;0;
Mimei's flashback manages to touch on two different ideas present in other chapters this week - Ruri Dragon's caution against assuming what other people think, and Blue Box's admiration for those who commit to living the life they want. In a fascinating take on the Abilene Paradox, Mimei thought he was doing what everyone wanted, and everyone thought he wanted to do what he was doing, when the reality was that no one actually wanted that outcome in the first place. By committing to the path that made him happiest, Mimei chose one that made everyone else happy in the very way he wanted to in the first place, affirming that this was the right choice all along
"This cicada was a human in its past life. How can you tell?" - When the rest of the brood was emerging, this one hit the snooze button

In 2026, the chicest thing a gay actor can do is never explicitly come out as gay but also make it abundantly clear that he is. Coming out is too modern. Staying closeted is too old fashioned. But this method merges contemporary freedom with Old Hollywood glamour and allure, and it weeds out the dumbest people who truly don’t get it. I call it the Pascal Method.
You clearly don't go here or to queer history and signaling, or both, enough to have this conversation and I'm not going to explain it to you. You could have asked questions, you could have done even a modicum of research. You didn't and you made yourself look ignorant. Goodbye.

Friendly reminder as we get closer to the launch of the ModRetro M64. ModRetro is owned by Palmer Lucky, a self described “Radical Zionist” who fundraises for Donald Trump.
Palmer Lucky also has another company, called Anduril Industries, that manufactures and sells AI powered weapons and surveillance systems. ModRetro even sells Anduril branded gameboys that were made from the same metal that they use to manufacture attack drones.
Don’t buy this thing. A 200 dollar Nintendo 64 clone is not worth your soul.
The reason I’m bringing this up now is because there seems to be a new marketing push happening for this device. It’s all over my feed on TT and IG right now.
They seem to be pushing the fact that there are new Nintendo64 games being made for the M64. This is very misleading because any game that runs on the M64 will run on a real Nintendo 64.
There’s also been new games coming out for the Nintendo 64 for years. ModRetro didn’t make this happen. They’re just publishing a few games. The Nintendo 64 Homebrew scene has been thriving on its own.
I’m gonna propose “I guess you haven’t read the silmarillion then :/” as a default response to anyone not understanding a reference to something obscure. even if it’s not remotely Tolkien related. I want to build up a perception that perhaps the sum total of human knowledge is contained in the silmarillion
