TRAP to pearl from coral pearl @earthbond!
This was preposterous. This entire scenario was preposterous! For once in her entire existence, she attempted to try out the human invention of an elevator. Or, one that differed from anything crafted from gem hands, anyways. What a mistake that was, to trust humans to attempt and replicate something so intrinsic. They were so fragile and so susceptible to death... why did they even need to go this high in the first place? They had plenty of land with all of their grain and seeds and things. Couldn't they put constructs there? ... Pearl relaxed from her stressed standing spot in the elevator with a sigh. She should've given them more credit. Rose did, Rose fought for them, and Rose died for them. Over thousands of years Pearl had pretended to respect the humans, and had even grown a genuine connection to them following the introduction of Steven into the world. Still, she could criticize their methods and worldviews, especially when this development of human history was coming all too fast. Only a few years ago did they use their fellow mammals for everything! The Crystal Gem walked to the edge of the elevator, the side panel that showed her the rest of Empire City. She only took this trip upwards to get to see the city from a further, elevated plane. She was giving humanity the benefit of the doubt and perhaps, yes, perhaps, even being considerate of the advancements like this city. Even though they couldn't see the stars here (she tried, but light pollution had other plans), the lights on the lower levels made up for it. Pearl pressed her hand to the glass and looked down at the rest of Empire City from her elevated existence.
"Its... definitely something, I think." Pearl was not alone. She intended to be, but someone else had stepped into the same elevator. That someone wasn't a human, either. It was someone with the same exact gem type as she had. Pearl... didn't quite know how to feel about other pearls being around her. She had been the only one she'd known of for a few millennium, and now here was a pearl who was... free. This new Era was full of many relieving surprises, even if every gem still had yet to become accustomed to it. "If we're going to be trapped in here for a, hopefully not, indefinite period, why don't we both enjoy the view? Not like there's anything else we can do." Pearl turned towards Coral Pearl and waved her hand to gesture her to her side. "Unless we broke the glass and fell back down to surface level, but I really wouldn't want to get dirty. Or risk cracking my gem. I don't even know where Steven is if he had to come fix it." Because she would rather shatter completely than willingly go to any of the Diamonds.
“you don’t avert your gaze. most would.” from coral pearl @earthbond !
Coral Pearl spoke nothing but the truth with her statement. Tulip Pearl had stared a lot longer at her than she should've, than she would ever be permitted to by her Jade. Fortunately for her, Tulip Jade had been preoccupied with the meeting at the circular table with other elite gems, mostly sapphires and the like. For all intents and purposes, Tulip Pearl wasn't supposed to be here. Neither was Tulip Jade, as this was a meeting that was obviously not for them. Alas, Tulip Jade's Ultraviolet Sapphire had sent both her and Tulip Pearl in her stead, and now there the jade was, scrambling to preserve her presentation as much as possible. If she didn't, it would round back to her Sapphire, which was something she could not allow to happen. So there Tulip Pearl was, thinking, staring, and now interacting with another pearl who's owner was also busy. Coral eyes squinted, her entire face scrunching, until it softened.
"Most would rather prioritize their master than their own kin," Tulip Pearl put it painfully bluntly. Her features were nothing but firm, serious, fully believing her blasphemous statement. Silence fell between the two pearls before Tulip Pearl looked towards the gems in the center of the room, all conversing with each other over things that didn't benefit the two of them. "Which one is yours," the pearl asked in a tone so monotonous that it hardly came off as questioning.
