Lemurs

The name lemur is actually Latin for "spirits of the night". Did you know that they have a secondary tongue under their main tongue which they use for grooming.

Lemurs are native to Madagascar. And their numbers are steadily declining due to illegal pet trade, logging and habitat destruction. Lemurs can seem to be cute but they are wild, and wild animals aren't pets. Reports suggest lemurs are being kept as pets in hotels and house holds despite the awareness that it is against the law, which points to the less efficient enforcement of the law. The wild lemurs live in complex social groups—but their isolation when they’re taken to live as pets means the lemurs often become frustrated and aggressive, particularly when they reach sexual maturity at about 3 years old, often resulting in lashing out.

Even if we go about our daily lives, not being aware, many of the species on earth are facing the threat of extinction because of our carelessness, apathy and irresponsibility. When will we stop?

Bear

Did you know that despite their massive size, a Grizzly bear can run at speeds up to 35mph.

Did you also know that Black bears are legally hunted in 27 U.S. states? And for what? So that some miserable piece of shit can go back to his equally depressed life and feel a false sense of accomplishment and manlihood? And to top it off, Asian markets place high value for bear-parts trade, thus posing great threat on bear population worldwide because of increased legal killing as well as poaching.

A half-arsed sketch of sperm whale skeleton.

Warming oceans and loss of sea ice in the Arctic and Antarctic can affect the habitats and food of whales. Large patches of tiny plants and animals that they feed on will likely move or change in abundance as climate change alters the seawater temperature, winds and ocean currents. (Source: wwf)

Day 5 - Wild

Avni the tigress was the first thing that came to mind when I thought of #wild. She was slaughtered by some trigger happy morons a couple of days back in Maharashtra, leaving behind two cubs, thus putting an end to the man-eater hunt. While everyone's still in shock, yet another tigress has been brutally killed by the villagers in Uttar Pradhesh, running a tractor over her.

Tigers are attacking humans due to a shortage of space and viable prey. They are simply behaving in a way dictated by their circumstances. And we the superior humans retort through violence and malice.

Did you know out of the nine subspecies of tigers, three are now extinct? These include the Balinese, Caspian and Javan tigers.

Day 4 prompt from @3dtotal initiative of #EarthDraw2018

Bee

Needless to say, we all are aware that the extinction of bees would subsequently wipe out all other life forms. But what are we doing to prevent it?

They are critical pollinators: they pollinate 70 of the around 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world. Honey bees are responsible for $30 billion a year in crops. We may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and so on up the food chain.
