The fifty-fourth card of the Tarot is associated with the last ten degrees of Libra- Mercury in Libra. Air + earth. It could be a child-like mind, curiosity, fast learning, restlessness or a short attention span. There’s an innocence, airiness and lightheartedness to the symbolism. There’s kindness and compassion (though it could also be ruthlessly honest statements), and a link to social justice. It may be the learning of languages, the world of schools and libraries, media through which verbal communications are delivered. It could be art criticism, storytelling or interpreting. It is also the use of the hands to articulate- formal or informal sign language. It might represent a person who aids in networking or assists with marketing. It may signify incoming messages or delivering news.
The hummingbird is a symbol for play, joy, healing, good luck, speed and agility. Foxtail grass represents mystery and the instinctive, untamed side of nature. It’s linked to Mercury (dualistic + dry/hands, arms, shoulders, lungs, nervous system, brain). Its grains are a source of protein, carbohydrates and fiber. They’re edible raw, but are hard and possibly bitter. Boiling the grains can soften them and take away the bitterness.
