Picking Favourites
(Oh look! More Easter!Queue. Here’s a Kingsman drabble inspired by my own family dinners, with my own teeny tiny family members. Mostly fluff with just a smidge of Hartwin. Enjoy! And Happy Easter!)
---
“Harry-” Daisy squirms in Roxy’s grip when she catches sight of the man, her pudgy fingers grasping for him desperately, “pick up, pick up!”
Harry stares down at her, momentarily startled, before he flicks his gaze up to a rather put off looking Lancelot. “Roxy, my apologies-”
“For the love of-” she cuts herself off before anything too colourful escapes her mouth, reluctantly peeling Daisy off her shoulder, “why’d you have to go and peek in the room like that! I’ve never gotten to put her down before, and just when I start to get her comfortable, you show up.”
Eggsy laughs from somewhere down the hall, strolling up to Daisy’s bedroom door and folding his arms across his chest.
“There’re just some things that can’t be helped wit toddlers Rox.” He assures her, beaming when Harry begrudgingly scoops Daisy up. The three year old lets out a bright noise of delight, rubbing her wet mouth all over his nice shirt collar. “Won’t even let me put her down when Harry’s around. Once they have a favourite at this age, that’s it for the rest of us.”
“Yeah well, it’s not her I blame.” Roxy jabs Harry in the shoulder when he moves past her towards the crib, but her tone is more affectionate than angry. “I thought for once I’d be able to sneak her down before she even remembered he was here.”
“Honestly Roxy, I didn’t think-” Harry starts, bouncing Daisy in his arms and flashing her an apologetic look.
“Don’t even pretend you didn’t do it on purpose.” Roxy teases, sliding over to stand at Eggsy’s side with a slow shake of her head. “You’re head over heels for that little one.”
Harry just offers her a sheepish smile and sits down on the edge of the bed, already reaching for the story book on the night stand. “She is rather charming, isn’t she.”
“Yeah.” Eggsy smiles, watching as Daisy reaches up to smooth her hands against Harry’s cheeks. “Yeah I s’pose she is.”
“If you wanted, we could read to her together?” Harry offers, scooting up the bed with Daisy already curled in his lap. “I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.”
“Thanks for the offer, but I think Eggsy and I will probably go help Michelle start on Easter dinner. Plus Merlin should be here any minute, and someone should be ready to pour him a stiff drink,” Roxy offers dismissively.
She does have a point. It had been a task and a half to convince Merlin to worm away from HQ long enough for a holiday meal. They fully plan on ensuring that he enjoyed every moment of it.
With a small smile Roxy edges back over towards the bed momentarily, leaning down over Daisy. “Can I at least get a good night kiss?”
“Night night.” Daisy makes a bright noise and presses her face up against Roxy, giving her a big wet smooch.
That seems enough to satisfy Rox and she beams, reaching down to ruffle Daisy’s hair affectionately. “Have a good nap little one.” She straightens, her attention flicking to Harry momentarily. “I get to put her down tonight, deal?”
“Deal.” Harry smiles after her when she retreats, pausing only long enough to clasp Eggsy on the shoulder before she disappears down the hall.
Only then does Eggsy saunter further into the room, raising a brow pointedly to the pair on the bed. “You are a bit greedy with Dais, y’know.”
“I know.” Harry admits with a tired sigh. “I can’t help it.”
“That’s alright.” Eggsy comes to the side of the bed, putting one hand on the headboard and leaning down into Harry’s space. “I don’t hold it against you.”
“Promise?” Harry chides, his expression teasing.
Eggsy leans down the last few inches to press their lips together firmly. “Promise.”
He takes the time to steal a kiss from Daisy too before he straightens, watching the pair with a smile. “Enjoy your story time.”
“We will.” Harry’s cheeks crinkle up to his eye patch and he reaches up, dragging Eggsy down for one last, quick kiss. “See you in a few?”
“Deal.”
Harry turns his attention back to Daisy when Eggsy makes his way out of the room, scooting the toddler further up into the crook of his arm and cracking open her story book. He starts where they left off the night before, reading to her in a soft, soothing voice.
Eggsy can’t help but pause in the doorway, watching them for a long moment before the sharp chime of his doorbell catches his attention.
He can hear Roxy’s distant ‘I’ve got it’ from the kitchen, and he forces himself to peel away from the doorway.
Sauntering down the hall Eggsy leaves Harry to his baby business and makes his way down towards the kitchen-
Can’t leave his mum to host their family dinner alone, after all.
