Our first days in London were spent as stereotypical tourists. After securing Oyster cards in our sweaty (with excitement, definitely not warmth) palms we set off to explore. First, shopping at H&M, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, etc and later exploring the streets of the city through a free walking tour with Sandeman's tour group. We walked through Covent Gardens, Trafalgar Square, saw Nelson's Column, one of Charles Dickens' houses, The National Gallery, St James' Palace (for the changing of the guard), Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, St James' Park, the Churchill War Rooms, Big Ben, Westminister Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.
Safe to say we've become lost (literally) in the beautiful, bustling, historic city. On our first double decker bus ride we took twice as long to reach our destination, as streets, boroughs and stations all share the same names, causing much confusion. I think I'm getting the hang of it now, although the tube map is still daunting! One thing that will take much more getting used to is the weather. Just 7 degrees today, I have made it my mission to find a good quality coat, boots and gloves- shouldn't be too difficult with a H&M on every corner and markets every other day. We plan on heading to Camden Markets tomorrow to hunt down some Easter bargains.
