EASTERN BROWN SNAKES NOW THE MOST COMMON CAUGHT For years the most common snake I caught were eastern tigers. This appears to have changed recently with this season having far more eastern browns then tiger snakes. In other words, now the 2nd most venomous land snake in the world is the most common in Melbourne this season. This is unusual for me - but as I'm saying I'm seeing changes in snake behaviour. Even in this colder and wet weather, you can still find snakes in and around homes, businesses, and schools. Brown snakes are an extreme risk for dogs. Dogs can die within 1 hour of an eastern brown snake bite. LARGE EASTERN BROWN CAIGHT IN BATHROOM - WARRANDYTE SOUTH Getting a call with the home owner saying: "Yes, there's a snake in my bathroom." I reply: "Be there in 20." Showing up the bathroom was completely empty. Of course brown snakes can flatten themselves out, crawl under the bathroom door and now we had to play "hide and seek" as it was in the house somewhere.... Eventually I found the snake in the study and it did the typical "S" bend treating and striking out at me repeatedly. I said: "Stop it!". Picked up the snake. Posed for the necessary photos and put it away. ANOTHER ADVENTURE IN THE NORTHERN SUBURBS Eastern brown snake in a factory in Craigiburn (pic 1) and a lowland copperhead under a school in Mickelham (pic 2). This brown was sitting just out front of the building and when it saw me it ran. YARRAMBAT HOUSE HAS 4 SNAKES IN 2 DAYS This home in yarrambat had a large tiger snake the day before then found 3 baby brown snakes freshly hatched on different parts of the property near the primary school. Good news! I got one of the 3 that was going for a swim. Bad news: no idea where the rest are. I had to get other snakes so no time to search. Worse news: there is probably about 15 actual baby snakes on the property.
