Parade of Nations - East Timor

French: Timor Oriental // English: East Timor // Japanese: 東ティモール (Higashi Timōru)

    East Timor formed its National Olympic Committee in 2003 and participated in its first Olympics as a country at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. They haven’t hosted any Olympic Games, but they’ve participated in 5 Summer Games and 2 Winter Games. The Olympic sports in which East Timor has competed are Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Swimming, and Wrestling.

    “East Timor, the newest country in Asia, incorporates ethnic patterns into birds based on the contrast between high mountains and the sea, and draws the Asahi in a large size after the meaning of the country name "East East". We hope for a bright and prosperous future. While greedily incorporating various resources such as coffee cultivation and tourism, which we are focusing on as a national policy, into the design, it is a work that stands out as a dynamic work.”[1]

    “A Nishijin hand-woven work in which coffee fruits and beans, which are being promoted, are graphically laid out in contrast with the soft silver foil and woven along with the flow of flowers. Considering the nationality of many children, this work is conscious of the world of picture books.” [1]

Australasia 43 years ago today: Indonesian invasion of East Timor (13 Jan 1976) https://buff.ly/2QJWS9K In 1974 Portugal’s staunchly colonialist dictatorship was overthrown, encouraging the Portuguese colony on Timor to declare independence as East Timor. Indonesia immediately claimed and invaded the new country, but took three years of fighting to complete the conquest.
