Easy Release Model Release App
Every now and then we come across something small and simple, but can have a great positive impact. This time, this 'thing' comes in the form of an app called Easy Release which creates model releases on you iDevice or Android device.
Typically, photographers wishing to submit images to agencies or to sell as commercial images would need to bring several hard copies of model and/or property releases to provide proof of consent for the images taken and submitted. If you left the house without these (especially model releases) and you took the best photograph of a person, it would potentially have less value without a release.
But no more. With Easy Release, you have and unlimited number of either Model and Property releases right in your pocket. It's dead easy to use and it set up in no time.
Once installed, you're guided through setting up your (the photographer) information such as name, email address and a signature which you sign with your finger/stylus.
You also have the option to add a logo and business name to the header of the release.
The app comes with a standard release for both model and property release which, I might add, is accepted by many agencies including Getty Images, Alamy, iStockPhoto & ShutterStock. You also have the option on adding your own customised version.
Need a language other than English? That's taken care of too. Easy Release supports 17 built-in translations making it even more convenient for when you're travelling on international assignments.
For a little extra you can purchase the 'advanced customisation pro-pack' which brings support for multiple branding, multiple-templates, alter the shoots end-date, and have the ability to add as many custom fields as you require as some of the many extras in the pack.
For the models side of the app, this is just as easy. The app guides you through required fields such as name, address, contact information and the models date of birth. The app will use the DoB to calculate the models age and prompt you if a parents signature is required. In the case of an adult model, the app will suggest that a parents/witnesses signature may not be required. This you have to check with the particular agency you're submitting to and/or the requirements of the country you are in.
Once you have completed these steps, you also have the option to add a photograph as a reference image with the in-app camera. However, this is not compulsory.
Now it's time for the signature/s of the model/s, and parent/witness if required, and you're done! You just have to select to create the release and it will be emailed to you straight away. Easy!
I am yet to use this app in the field, but am excited by the possibilities that it will open up now that I no longer have to worry about carrying releases and a pen with me all the time.
I'll write another post once I've given this a go a few times and give my thoughts then.
