Amsterdam - Eating Out and About
Recently, I went on a city break to Amsterdam and one of the things that was on my mind was “How Am I going to Eat?”. It is a usual saying for people with Wheat / Gluten when going to new places and not knowing what is on offer.
My first look into gluten free food in Amsterdam was this blog: The Happy Coeliac. There are a lot of useful information and places to eat along with the locations but one of the great links that the blog provided was the Coeliac resturant card. This was handy to take out and about with you just incase some places didnt know however, from my experience, everyone spoke english and knew of gluten free which was a bonus.
We stayed in a Hotel NH Schiller just on rembrandtplein where we discover, to what I can only describe, a Hipster Co-Op. It was called Marqt Utrechtsestraat and had a fantastic gluten free section which had some stroopwafel which i was very please about :).
I was being very strict as to what I could and Couldn’t eat as I didn’t want to be in a situation that I was rendered useless as I had been stricken with Gluten so everywhere where we went, I asked (or mainly my Girl Friend asked) if food was gluten free.
Convenient food such as the easy pick up and eat sandwiches was poor though that is the same over here so I didn’t expect too much from snacking however, we did find a Gluten Free chip show called Chipsy King as all of the chips were cooked separately from everything else. They were also very good too!
Other Places I would recommend:
Wagamama
Memories of India
La Parrillada
Rancho Rembrandtplein
Snickers were also a live saver during the day when you need that quick lunch as there are Gluten Free
