GW's in-house painters were still experimenting with a wide variety of basing methods, like the metal mesh under some of the 40K figures, and the untextured bases of the skeletal war band painted to look like cobblestones. All of Benson's bases are brown, with highlights of yellow or red. But new fantasy releases and complete fantasy armies for battle reports are using a new basing style, green all over with yellow highlights, to match the green table covers.

The first(possibly only) Ultramarine I've painted. I did this as a challenge to see how close I could get to 'eavy Metal / boxart work. It was a lot of lines, which is normally how I paint anyhow.

'Eavy Metal (White Dwarf 123, March 1990): "Personal heraldry for Space Marine officers and some variants of the traditional Marine colour schemes." This includes the original Death Eagle chapter in purple, white, and gold, and a rare sighting of a Grey Knight chapter member in regular Mk VI beaky armor. The "Night Lords Renegade Captain in Terminator Armour" is one of Jes Goodwin's "Traitor Terminators" from 1989.
