went through a 10-15 year old sketchbook and found some kinda fun stuff, mainly OC shenanigans - descriptions under the cut if anyone wants to know who these people are!
the grasshopper and the ants story but what if she was a warrior and he was a musician and they fell in love
Mikey and Jonesy were pretty short-lived characters based on a dream, I don't think I'll ever go back to them but their dynamic was interesting. Also there's a nice Ka D'Argo from Farscape :D
The parasite sorcerer warlord King Niet and the leader of the sorcery division General Gauliére, being evil and plotting and stuff
Callendar the medium and Greaves the Shopkeeper(tm). Greaves has fairly weak magical ability in a practical sense so sometimes his more magical friends have to come and appraise stuff for him. I've never done anything with these characters but I still always kinda go back to thinking about them
Nyr having a Moment with the main antagonist of one of the eighth Doctor Big Finish audio stories I had just listened to at the time. I can't remember which one it was (looking on the wiki I THINK it was Faith Stealer?), but the cult-y energy deity thing was kinda similar to Nyr and what he is (a Mara) so it was fun to mash them together lol
-Super weak to holy water, it’s basically like poison+acid to them, prevents them from healing and actively damages them too
-Not affected by the whole “undead can’t cross running water thing”
-Have to sleep in dirt, for newer vamps just a crumble of dirt in their otherwise normal bed will do, but the older they get the more dirt they need until finally they just GOTTA sleep in a big ol’ mud pit
-Can turn to a kind of congealed mist, but only when they get real old, old as balls
-Before that they’re just real squishy and flexible, and can basically do the octopus thing where they can enter a room with a crack as small as their hardest part (the jaws)
-Can be identified by some sort of... pentagram jewelry or tattoo, I was kind of doing a five way split mouth for an intermediate monster form and I like the idea of that combined with a circle (for full lamprey mouth) being a way for them to ID each other when out and about, plus I just... really like Secret Vampire Tattoos
-Frequently have very faint “seam” lines where the split in their mouths are. If noticeable, they can usually be covered with makeup or a face covering, like a scarf or surgical face mask. Some vamps just explain them as old childhood scars if pressed about it.
-Metal weakness is silver, it’s just very irritating to touch, they naturally avoid it but can handle silver objects if pressed to.
-Idk about herb weakness.
-Slow vamp metabolisms, don’t have to feed often, so can stay fairly hidden in terms of not needing to hunt often
-Can eat animal blood
-BUT must be fresh blood from a living thing, can’t do blood bank blood or blood from things that have been dead like, more than three or four hours, it’s Very Bad for them, warm and fresh only
-Per my reading of Dracula, a crumble of Eucharist in their sleep dirt will prevent them from being able to rest there
-BUT not really affected by the cross
-Per EBAMTAR vamp rules they cannot enter dwellings unless invited without issues, a vampire that enters a dwelling without permission basically gets... A temporary very fast metabolism, and will “dry out” and starve if they remain inside
-Also per EBAMTAR vamp rules, are weak to the sun, in this case very, and only go out at night or during VERY overcast rainy days (with lots and lots of rain gear on)
-Naturally communal, live in groups of about 3 to 10 in a fairly small area, and always sort of weirdly get along despite occasional massive differences in personalities
In ye olde modern day of EBAMTAR, they usually get jobs as third shift workers or in offices/factories with no windows, and live in areas where it’s frequently overcast. The highest human profile vampire they have is the son of a rich guy who preserved a lot of historical real estate (that a lot of vampires lived under) and when he passed his son was super ready to sell it for Money! and as a last ditch “we really don’t want to move” play they turned him and now he cannot sell the land because now his adoptive worm vampire family lives there. He’s the most active in human shenanigans, most older vampires just chill in sewers and under graveyards and complain about that darn Queen Alice and her newfangled rules that were definitely not in place when they were freshly turned, no, no. LIMITS on how many vampires can live in a city WE already had something like that naturally don’t need somebody coming in and telling us!
-I’ve got fuckall idea where they originally came from country wise. I wanna say someplace near Russia but like good lord all monster vampires live near Russia it feels like and I don’t wanna have to do research about placeeessssss.
I like to think that the tiny tweaks I make to Alice’s design over time are canonically happening year by year as she gradually grows in power- she is after all just a baby eldritch abomination
