(just fucking around with some monster explorations for my original comic idea)
Amalgamates are the creatures that crawl out of the Whitewake fissures, and terrorise whatever's in their path. Wavebreak agents are dispatched to deal with them with specialised tools, as attempting to strike them with normal weapons would just result in those getting absorbed as well. While it's hard to convey in a static medium like a comic, I imagine the dark dappled patterning on their body undulating as they move, kind of how you'd imagine light rays to shift when shining through the surface of water.
Some Days are Far More Visceral than Others
Mask makers unbound, in burning second sight, i saw a time before a time when solace had no name.
here at the sandwich shop, we’ve started to notice some people who are new to sandwiches aren’t used to meat and cheese between two slices of bread. they find this practice strange and confusing. that’s why we’ve decided to cut the bread out all together. from now on, we’ll just serve slices of meat and cheese on a plate.
we know that many of our loyal sandwich shop customers have been coming here for years to buy our delicious sandwiches. but some people don’t “get” sandwiches, and we need to try and appeal to them with an easier-to-understand meal format. we will no longer be serving sandwiches. all of our food will just be cold cuts on a paper plate. we love our customers and appreciate your understanding <3
Yes we know Craig's Cold Cuts down the street does cold cuts better than we do and has millions of customers. That's why we need to switch to cold cuts, to get their customers. We hope that our long-time sandwich loving customer base will be patient in this transition to cold cuts and welcome the certain influx of Craig's Cold Cut customers who will surely come here to enjoy our worse cold cuts with you, our sandwich-deprived customer base, whom we value so much.
We also perfectly reversed gender. Our two female players both played male characters and both of our male players played female characters.
More The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu posting!
Funniest possible lore reasons for going to creepy jungle hell island populated exclusively by Lovecraftian Horrors. Lets God Gold and Glory That Which Sleeps Beyond The Stars. Very 1500s Spain of you.
Turns out the Conquistador theme is NOT just set dressing and the whole fact that a large chunk of the named characters believe they have the divine right to land clearly inhabited by The Old Ones and to touch all of The Old One's Stuff is actually very relevant. Turns out they are entirely here because of that. Not such a great idea! Especially when multiple native peoples have told you that's stupid don't do that!
Game itself is still a smidge janky. It's clearly a smaller studio release. There's lots of legitimate critique to the gameplay and how they do the extraction and stuff but as a Mythos fan who likes atmospheric gaming and collecting stuff this is like shoving my face in the yaoi cocaine. What do you meaaaaaaaan the trees sometimes randomly attack me because the forest is angry? What do you mean you have multiple idols and holding them makes you crazy faster? What do you meaaaan there's a haunter in the dark here somewhere? What do you meaaaaaan there's an ancient city beyond the stars and you wanna colonize it? Are you bonkers?
So yeah, the madness elements are very fun. We pulled a full four-man team together today and it really helped a lot. Still lots of moments where we started hallucinating and we did party wipe at least once and we did nearly die three or four times because the forest got big mad and we panicked and saw ghosts or flesh beasts or zombies and only because we booked it back down the carts trail did we manage to escape. Tension so so thick it makes you go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
There's no actual loadout, you just get randomly assigned supplies at the beginning of the mission, which vaguely sucks because I really like the polearm and if we're not given one I am big sad! I can always buy a crucifix though. Game lets me do that every time.
I am still playing as the priest he's mine now.
(Not monsters just creepy statues in the jungle.)
(Also this game is crazy beautiful? The jungle is so lovely and lush.)

This is genuinely a monster though, Nunu got grabbed and a ghost shoved itself down his throat and we never managed to figure out what the deal was because we did extract on time and nothing appeared to go horribly wrong despite this. Very worried for what this means in the future though. We did manage to rescue Anna after she got bodyjacked by the forest but it was super creepy watching her character silently lurch around after she was yelling about being killed by zombies and somehow we managed to knock her out and haul her back with us, but we still don't know what this green ghost fucker is! And I learned recently hat there ARE genuinely shoggoths and how are we supposed to fight one if every time we shoot a gun the map gets pissed at us!
triplets where two of them are sisters who lost their brother down a well and then gained a new one
who are these characters and where are they from?

Most major corporations — from airlines to social media platforms — now aspire to become unregulated banks. Bankification today accounts for
This is a long read, but worth it. Some takeaways:
-Don’t use “buy now pay later.” The fine print isn’t what it seems.
-The fine print on medical financing, store credit cards, and contactless payment is also not what it seems.
-Payday loans are still predatory, even when offered by your employer
-Rewards programs are an income stream for the companies that run them. The points systems are manipulated so that the house always wins. They depend on people leaving money in rewards accounts and not in interest-bearing traditional bank accounts.
-Electronic payment apps like VenMo are not banks. You don’t earn interest. Your money is not protected.
-Your financial information is not private if your money is not kept in a regulated bank.
-None of this is regulated by the FDIC. Your money is not protected if it is held by a non-bank doing banking business. Our economy is not protected from the collapse of financial institutions that are not banks.
-The Biden administration was making progress in increasing accountability for non-banks operating as predatory financial services providers. The current administration is reversing those protections to favor corporations.
Oh boy.
A third of younger Americans hold their savings on nonbank tech platforms like Venmo
PEOPLE! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR MONEY IN VENMO OR APPLE PAY OR ANY OF THIS SHIT. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GO FIND A REAL BANK OR A CREDIT UNION.
If Venmo were to close tomorrow all your money would vanish. There's no insurance or guarantee on any of these things. I know banks aren't great but legit banks will have the "FDIC insured" logo on their doors and websites, which means if my bank goes under tomorrow I still get my money back. Also I guarantee you there is a credit union somewhere in your town, go find it.
You can leave some money in Venmo or Apple pay or whatever, but NOT ALL OF IT for the love of God.
FYI this is what the logo looks like and Apple Cash is FDIC insured.
No, it's misleading. Go to Green Dot's T&Cs, search for "FDIC," and you'll come across this:
your funds are insured up to $250,000 by the FDIC in the event Green Dot Bank fails
In the event Green Dot Bank fails. Meaning the only time your money is protected is if Green Dot goes under. Not if Apple goes under (unlikely, granted). Or if Apple changes its terms (entirely possible). Or if you got scammed. Or if Apple freezes your account because they think you're the one scamming. Or any of the other countless mishaps your money could suffer. Green Dot is insured, but Apple Cash is not.
This is the disclaimer (highlighted) you see before you set up Apple Cash:
I really need my followers, especially younger ones, to read this.
And DO NOT get store credit cards, they are money sucks and difficult to cancel.
As someone who's worked in the industry for a decade now, here's a quick rundown (US specific,) of what your schools and parents didn't teach you:
For the love of god get an account at a federally insured institution. Look for FDIC (banks) or NCUA (credit unions) insured and regulated financial institution. They are legally required to have this status publicly available and accessible so it's not hard to find.
The FDIC and/or NCUA will insure your accounts up to $250,000 PER AUTHORIZED SIGNER and per account type. These are factors to max your coverage to even higher than $250k but the key point is that if something happens to your bank or accounts there, that first $250k of your money is secured anyway.
Banks are for profit. Credit Unions are exactly what it sounds like: unions. They are not for profit and member owned.
Bigger institutions have more money and resources at their disposal; they have the fancier apps, 24/7 phone banking and more locations. But watch out! They are no different than any other large corporation you've heard of when it comes to ethics. Smaller institutions have more limitations, and lesser size is not an indicator of morality, but it's something to consider when choosing where to keep your money.
These institutions, regardless of what kind you choose, will offer interest bearing accounts. Money Market Savings and Time Accounts (also called Certificates of Deposit,) are popular choices to put the money you already have to work for you. You can earn money just for having your money in an interest bearing account type.
All financial institutions charge fees of one sort or another. They are offering products and services, after all. Nothing is free! They will also disclose options to avoid paying those fees, usually based around meeting specific criteria such as minimum balances or direct deposits.
Take this information and do your own research so that you can make an informed decision. Now you know what to look for! Don't be taken advantage of!
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram

Some of what I’ve been scribbling for the past year, part deux. Been preoccupied with this dude X monster/beast woman thing. I have about a thousand variations of a story and none of them really work, it’s just vibes 😄
Doin' an artfight but was in the mood for my own guys and turns out mid-shift Varand looks a lot like an orc????? This man is just an elf werewolf.
And my mans of course, my special mans.
I need to find a better place for refs I can't just keep using the heart of the cards like this.
i actually think that what's being missed in the 'why does everyone love heated rivalry' conversation is just that it's good
it's well made, well shot, well directed, the music is interesting, the costumes are both thoughtful and subtly period accurate, the sex scenes are intentional and, again, accurate to what hooking up when you're like 18 actually feels like...the actors are of course attractive but they look like real people. the characters are varied and well fleshed out, the acting is really, really strong
so many shows and films shoot and then slot in whatever music kind of fits or could be licenced in the budget after time, but you can tell that the scenes in hr were shot with that specific music in mind. and the same intentional approach runs through the whole thing
it feels...so nice to watch a show that cares about itself
Nobody knew in advance that this show would become a massive international phenomenon. It was a mid-budget Canadian show (which means low budget by US standards) adapted from a Harlequin romance novel. The deal with HBO for US distribution rights was only signed a few weeks before it began to air.
But everybody involved treated it as if it was serious art anyway. Not just some little Canadian streaming show that might well disappear after airing. Based on a book from a genre that is usually ridiculed by people who consider themselves serious film people. The cast, the crew, the writer/director, the music supervisor, everybody. They all did their best work for love of the game.

October 2025 Horror Movies Watched
October 22: The Empty Man
Weirdest vaguely obscure movies I've seen that are not SyFy Original Movies, some of these were on Red Letter Media episodes but every single one I watched before knowing about it on Red Letter Media.
I did not think seeing these was that weird because like... You hear about them regularly in movie circuits but then I talk to my other friends and they're like "hey what the fuck are you talking about" and it's like ooooooh I guess I have seen a lot of really specific scifi/fantasy/horror movies yeah yeah that is a little weird isn't it no, no these feel like normal movie recs to me but I can see how you, a person who has seen a normal movie, would think that, yes.
Faust: Love of the Damned (2000)
Tammy and the T-Rex (1994)
Blood Beat (1983)
Barbarella (1968)
Future War (1997)
Dellamorte Dellamore (1994)
Krull (1983)
The Company of Wolves (1984)
Mad God (2021)
Near Dark (1987)
Then there's stuff like Fright Night (og and remakes) or the Christine movie which seems very normal to have seen to me but also I have a list called "Vampires Movies I Need to Watch" and we're starting to hit the fun stuff (though there are a few classics I'm still missing) and none of my friend have ever heard of half of them.
