People are still vaccinated for small pox. He is in more danger from contracting our flus than people contracting small pox from him.

Uh, no, since the eradication of smallpox in 1979, the routine vaccination for it has been discontinued, and it was discontinued in the US in 1971.  First responders and people working in virus labs are the only people still routinely vaccinated.

Granted, it's pretty unlikely he would be carrying it, but it's possible.  Given his complexion, I'm pretty sure he hasn't already had it, so he could be infectious. 

You know, if you can incubate a disease in a cave for 200 years.

Coming home to find Allison and Victoria Argent parked on the living room couch, drinking tea and crawling up Kate’s ass makes a perfectly awful end to Derek’s already awful day. Kate has her company face on: pink lipstick and wide eyes, a white button down done up to the collar and her hands folded demurely in her lap. “Don’t be rude, Derek,” she coos when he tries to blow by. She reaches out to grab his wrist and her fingers are vice-like, too strong. She’s played tennis her whole life; she’s got a grip. The pointed tips of her perfect manicure dig in hard, pinpricks of pain flashing up his arm. He glares at her before turning his sunniest smile on the widow Argent and her weirdo daughter. 

“To what do we owe the pleasure,” he asks. Kate loosens her grip and scraps her nails gently against the sensitive skin inside of his wrist before she lets go. Derek tenses against the shiver that ripples through him. It won’t do to let Kate see it any more than Allison and Victoria. There’s no sense in broadcasting the—effect Kate has on him. 

“Allison’s starting at Beacon Academy in the fall,” Victoria smarms. “We thought Kate might give her some pointers on finding academic and social success.”

“Honestly, Victoria, I’m a little hurt that you didn’t think to include me.” Allison squirms uncomfortably on the couch, her long legs parting at the knee for long enough that Derek can catch a glimpse of the dark valley between her slender thighs. Definitely fuckable, he decides, if it comes to that. She looks miserable in a dress, but that only makes it easier to get her out of it. 

“With your reputation, Derek?” He shrugs and smolders in Allison’s direction. Let her wonder what kind of reputation. 

“Well if I’m not needed, then.” Derek makes a formal little bow and escapes before Kate can find another reason to detain him.

It's actually kind of great having a fake boyfriend. Scott wakes Stiles up just before ass o'clock and drags him downstairs for breakfast so Stiles inhales a bowl of cereal and takes a nap on Scott's shoulder while he talks packs and politics with an alpha from Corvallis. Scott nudges him awake when it's time to head to their first panels of the day and sends Stiles off with specific instructions about where to go and what to pay attention to. Lydia was in charge of everyone's schedules for the weekend; even Stiles doesn't dare deviate. 

He's been to stuff like this before but it's always been little hinky northern California shindigs. The Greater Northwestern Werewolf alliance is a whole different ballgame: it's in a Hyatt, first of all, and there are nametags and ballrooms, keynote speakers, vendors hawking colored contact lenses and scent-masking essential oils.

The real difference, though, is that he's here with Scott on his arm, that he reeks of alpha pheromones, which means that almost everyone gives him a wide berth.  Usually he attracts-- unwanted attention, being young and single and unattached, still human, less likely to be strictly loyal. Stiles considers the possibility of fake taking up with one of the betas when Scott and Allison decide to go public.

He's just congratulating himself on having his shit so together-- being here with his pack and a plan, going to the conference room Lydia picked out for him, knowing he's going to spend the weekend without any weird invasive werewolf sniffing-- when he walks into the room, scans it for a seat, and lays eyes on the hottest dude he's ever seen in his life. He's sitting in the center of the back row and texting furiously, wearing a black sweater and dark jeans, all scowl and stubble and magic. Stiles is sliding into his row, intent on making an introduction, when the guy looks up, scowls harder, and goes goes to his phone, and Stiles remembers. He's just encountered the most attractive man alive, and he really, really can't let him know he's single. He slinks down into the seat anyway and pulls out his own phone to text Scott. This just started sucking, he sends. You might owe me more than beer when the weekend is done.

There are some shows where we’re pretty OCD about timelines. Mostly this happens when the Art Department has fun making in jokes. Please check out the Community background if you like that show.
