Finnick

Katniss had noticed that Finnick was happier than before. No wonder he was reunited with his true love again. So it was totally expected and no surprise. Only the girl wished she had the same kind of reunion with Peeta. Unlike her, she almost got killed by Peeta, thanks to what Snow had done to him. By hijacking him. Just so Peeta would kill her. Snow always let anyone else do his dirty works. Rolling her eyes, as she took a deep breath. Folding her arms over each other. 

Little smile appeared onto her face, still looking at Finnick and Annie, as her sister walked to her, and Katniss gave Prim a little hug, as she walked in the cafeteria with her little sister to get something to eat. Decided to sit with Finnick and Annie. “Hey, mind if we join you guys.” After she got back from the hospital after Peeta tried to choke her.

                                  She announces calmly, her voice slightly higher than usually to make up                                   for the fact that she doesn’t actually turn around to face the person. She                                   doesn’t have to---there is only one person who, she imagines, would pay                                   her a visit after tonight’s shocking announcement. She’s not entirely sure                                   why, but if it’s the reason she suspects, there wouldn’t have necessarily                                   been any need. She has already made up her mind and she wasn’t plan-                                   ning on changing it.

“You have been ever so helpful, darling, thank you. I think I can manage it from here.” She smiled brightly at the man, as she took her trunk from him. In truth, she could have carried it on her own to the 5th floor, but who was she too deny help, when it was offered. Blatant flirting had ensued from both, and she was sure that he would set up an appointment shortly.  She walked down the hall a short way, and set her trunk down on the ground. Olesya brushed out her dress, which had gotten rumpled from the man’s obvious groping. She took a deep breath, reigned in her whirling mind, and pushed her hatred of being touched, before knocking on her client’s door.

❝Perdón, Señor...❞ Jesúsa let her fingers brush against the man’s elbow to get his attention. The large bag she had for keeping everything she needed ( and then some extras, too ) dug a bit into her shoulder, but Jesúsa had long since learned to ignore that pain. Dark green eyes looked up at his before she asked in a thick accent,  ❝¿Dónde está la piscina? Where is the pool?❞

[ DRYING UP ]

Jesúsa’s eyes flickered between Finnick’s, breaths coming soft but no less ragged from her chapped lips. There wasn’t enough water. Jesúsa needed more water or to be taken out completely, but her body could not handle being half in and half out like it was now. The mermaid was d r y i n g  o u t, and every moment of it brought her more pain than she had ever experienced before. 

Still, she clung to Finnick. His hands brought a sense of calm to her, a sense that kept her from crying from the fear of it all. After all, she was d y i n g, the red, purple, and dark spots around sinking eyes and chapped lips showed that much to Finnick, but Jesúsa wondered if the other humans were blind and deaf to the sounds of something dying, because they’d hardly even given her a glance over their shoulder.

❝Finn?❞ She whispered, voice even softer than before. Her tongue felt like it had swollen and filled her entire mouth while her throat and mouth felt dry enough to scratch with each breath.  ❝Finn... No entiendo. I do not understand what is happening... Are you safe? ¿Sano y salvo?❞

     Singing.

     It seemed odd, that Finnick’s first instinct would be to sing      to his cellmate. It was a little old song from Four, something      every citizen there seemed to know almost instinctively,       similar to their famous swimming skills. Finnick sang strong      though quiet, eyes scanning worriedly over Annie.

     He hoped the song would soothe her. He hoped it would keep      her there with him, because right now he needed her too.

She wasn't there with him. She was far from him, lost in her own thoughts, shivering from the cold and trembling because of her fear. They weren't in Four. They weren't safe. She was with Finn, yes, but she was terrified of where they were. The Capitol...the Capitol. Annie was limp against the stone floor with her head lying lifelessly in his lap. With the exception of the rise and fall of her chest, she was as still as a corpse.

Becoming Each Other's Shadow

Annie ran down the porch, kicking up sand in her wake. A blue dress billowed around the seven year old girl as she laughed. She didn't stop until she got to the wet sand, falling down on her back and letting the waves wash against her dress. She laughed again when it began to soak the soft fabric.

Out of the corner of her eye she caught sight of a boy further down the beach. Pushing herself up she held out a hand in greeting.

"Hi! I'm Annie, what's your name?" Bright bouncy voice, ever present smile. Yes, Annie truly was the happiest girl in her neighborhood. No one who knew her would call her shy, Sure, she might space out sometimes but at seven that was alright.
