solar eclipse: occurs during a new moon when the sun, moon, and earth are aligned - the moon passes directly between the sun and earth, causing the sun to be obscured by the moon. at this point, the only visible sunlight stems from its corona, or the outer aura of plasma that surrounds the sun.

lunar eclipse: occurs during a full moon when the moon passes directly behind the earth into its shadow, or umbra - sunlight is blocked by the earth's position in front of the sun and the only visible light is that which is refracted through the earth’s atmosphere, causing a reddish hue to appear on the moon.

items:
clean, clear container with a flat top lid (a mason jar would be great)
clean water (distilled, purified, filtered, etc. avoid tap water if you want this to last)
three small crystals to represent the earth, sun, and moon
a sigil or statement of intent written on paper
instructions:
on the day of your chosen eclipse, fill your container with water and set outside or in your windowsill before the peak of the eclipse (the time will depend on your location)
program the jar to absorb energy from the eclipse
write down your sigil or petition and place the paper underneath the jar
on the top of the lid, align the crystals in order, depending on the type of eclipse you're working with: sun, moon, and earth for solar eclipses; sun, earth, moon for lunar eclipses
allow to charge for the duration of the eclipse
when finished, remove the jar from its original location and store in a cool, dark place for later use
*eclipses can be considered unfavorable in regards to casting spells for positive or benefic intentions but ymmv
