Hmm, my wikipedia app seems to put Academy Award winner Brie Larson front and center as the new face of eco-terrorism. Good for her, honestly, I much enjoy this pivot of hers to her time as an NFT fangirl ❤️

so I told my 7 year old about my favorite scene in a book, where Harry Dresden rides Sue into battle with necromancers, as a bedtime story.
He then proceeded to tell me a story about two vicious druids who attack a city, which is defended by a necromancer.
*I think he just wanted the Necro to raise a bunch of dinosaur bones in weird combinations.
Come to find out, the city was built by destroying miles of forest and killing all the wildlife to make room for toxic chemical plants and there was only one tree left in the whole city and the only animals are rats. The druids are trying to defend the remaining nature by stopping the urban sprawl.
The necromancer was born and raised in the city and is defending the people from this invading army of animals and angry plants.
By the end we couldn't decide who was in the right and agreed that the inhabitants of the city would put the druids in charge and make changes so they could stop destroying nature.
Anyway, I thought it was interesting that the kid heard a story about zombie dinos and immediately invented eco-terrorism.
no to unhinged maya being so jealous that she is biphobic, yes to unhinged maya committing eco-terrorism🥰
we lied, we cheated, we stole... and we kidnapped, we blackmailed, we tortured, we poisoned, we bombed, we sabotaged, we assassinated etc etc etc and we still do.
they more they push, they more suspicious they become.
Mars has been recently terraformed to be breathable and it has large oceans on it surface although much of the surface is still bleak and dusty. People have been living here for thousands of years already and jobs and infrastructure has been well established, most jobs would be to support human life. Would it make sense for this Martian population to be reverse bio-terrorists and deliberately burn down adapted forests to preserve the oxygen industry for example. How big a response would happen?
Tex: Uh. No, it would not make sense. Did we burn down forests and deliberately ruin the ecology of the Americas when we realized it was habitable land? Nope!
And anyway, the amount of time it would take to colonize Mars to have a population that would be capable of any... heavily ill-advised ideas such as these would take at least a generation. Terraforming and colonizing Mars is such a heavily recorded event right now, I can't imagine Earth collectively turning a blind eye to it just because we can plants a few potatoes on Mars.
Saphira: For any destructive act, there should be a benefit for the folks inciting the act within one or two degrees of connection.
What I mean by that is roughly this: Anyone who wants bioterrorism done, needs to benefit from the almost immediate consequences.
Causing a drop in the oxygen quantity/quality anywhere would have to benefit someone. My first impression was that bioterrorists were being paid to burn public and national sources of oxygen, so that folks would have to rely on/support corporate protected, or corporate run sources of oxygen. (As an American this is not a huge mental leap for me.) It provides a who, a why, and a direct benefit (they make money on folks being threatened with death. Standard fare stuff).
Now this is not the only route to take for this particular event, but let's take a more worldbuilding approach to this. Why do you want to see this take place? This is often the hardest question to ask because we're the only ones who can answer it, and yet we still fail to answer it honestly. Wonderful phenomenon. Do you want to demonstrate the consequences of bio-terrorism? Do you want to play with a populace who is trying to balance A New World and Lethal Danger? Did you want to see the world burn?
Once you have what you want sorted out, consider what impact the act itself will have. Sure, oxygen is severely depleted in that area. That's the direct effect.
The first degree effect is that people (and animals don't forget) are having a hard time with the whole breathing thing. Another first degree effect is that the area where the trees were are now super fertile, and smaller plants will grow, like clovers, ferns and fungi. Another first degree effect, CO2 will SKYROCKET. That's actually a banquet for some creatures, like algae.
Now let's look at second degree effects. Does this harm the atmospheric staples in place? Ozone layer? Artificial ozone? Here's another one. Media will go sasafrassin' wild over these fires. Heck, some of the fires may have even claimed shelters, depending on what sort of human resources were assigned to tend to the trees. Will others rush into capitalize on the drop in oxygen? Will others still rush in to mend/capitalize on the CO2 flare up? Bottled Air is already a thing in severely polluted cities. Heck, we already have Bottled Water normalized.
There's a lot to play with here, but first self-check. If you don't know why you as an artist are using this tool, it will simply cause havoc and make a mess of your project.
