Do you have any tips on how to get rid of fruit flies? No matter how clean our kitchen is, we always seem to have those little fuckers hanging around.

Oh god can you teach me to do proper winged eyeliner (I can never get it to look right or even or anything resembling actual winged eyeliner and I eventually give up and make raccoon eyes)?

For starts, I don't recommend a particular eyeliner product. What works for you may not work for someone else. Some people have great results from pencils, others can use bottles with their own brushes, and many invest in a little pot of eyeliner and a professional quality angled tip brush that can make thin or thick lines. What matters more is knowing how to construct the wing. Yes, I mean construct. But it's easy.

I usually start by figuring out where I'm putting my wings, and drawing a line from the outer corner of the eye to where the wing will end. Generally, it should be pointing toward the end of your brow or thereabouts. If need be, use a card of some sort to draw the line. The benefit of a card is you can pre-mark how long you want your wings to be and use the marks to ensure you get them the right length. Once you have that, close your eye and lightly go over the edge of the top lid. Don't worry about perfection, but try to get as close to the eyelash line as you can.

Keep your eye closed. We're not done.So now you got two lines drawn, and if you were to draw a third line between the far ends of the first two, you'd have a triangle shape.ANYTHING WITHIN THAT TRIANGLE IS FAIR GAME.The easiest thing to do is to go ahead and construct the triangle, then fill in the inside and clean up the edges a bit. It's a bit pronounced but there is absolutely nothing wrong with having loud-and-proud winged eyeliner.Or if you need it to be subtle, just round out the corner where the two lines meet, clean up the lines as need be, and call it done. That can be pretty dramatic too.And of course there are a lot of curves you can use in-between the extremes, starting with simple ones and then becoming more serpentine as you get more comfortable doing this. And you can get creative about how you create the curve--if you used a plastic card like a debit card, you can use the corner as a guide. I saw a clip once of someone using cellophane tape to mask where she didn't want her eyeliner, and got really great results that way, but that requires fairly tight skin around the eyes, which I don't have. OK, now that you're done applying the eyeliner--keep your eye closed if you used a liquid eyeliner. It needs to set to avoid making a mess, especially if you applied it heavily. Give it a couple of minutes. Fan your eyelid a bit. If you are worried you applied it too heavily take a cotton swab and GENTLY dab the excess.You can also use a swab to test whether the eyeliner is dry, incidentally. If gently touching the eyeliner doesn't transfer color to the swab, you're good to go. NOW you can open your eye.Repeat on the other eye, and be fabulous.
